The kind of masks Swat and special ops wear provide protection against burns, made of a similar material to what racecar drivers wear. It also provides a more intimidating image during an assault, making a hostile more likely to freeze up for a split second and giving the officers the advantage.

Funny thing is, the anti-gov't "black helicopter" nutjobs from the 90s probably think all this sh!t is cool!

No one is saying police don't make mistakes, but they do keep chaos at bay. Remember the gunmen in Los Angeles who started that huge shootout? They were armed as well as most infantrymen.

I do believe that SRT teams are needed, I also believe there is no real reason to have them in ski masks. There is an old saying, "The good guys don't hide." The only reason I can see them needed to hide their identity is if they are undercover officers. Otherwise, why are they hiding?

Good thing some of those evil paramilitary types were there though. A "regular" street cop could not have breached the barricaded doors with what he carries on his belt.

You are a moron. You have absolutely no idea what actually happened at Virginia Tech. Yet, you pontificate because you saw some coverage on CNN. Oohhh, touch you, the big expert. In the 9 minutes, not thirty, the police received the call, responded form more than a mile away, breached the barricaded doors, located the suspect inside a large building and were coming down the hall toward him when he heard them and killed himself.

No one is defending the actions of some of the followers of Islam. And what he is trying to point out, you (presumably) conservative piece of S**t , is that at some point in American history the government decided it was time to stop with the serving and protecting, and more of the violent, aggressive behaviour we see in law enFORCEment today.
