1917—1963 35th President USA 1961—63
In Southeast Asia the Kennedy administration perceived a growing Communist threat to the South Vietnamese government; it steadily increased the number of U.S. military advisers in South Vietnam and for the first time placed U.S. troops in combat situations. As disaffection in South Vietnam grew, moreover, the United States involved itself in political maneuvering and finally connived at the overthrow (Oct., 1963) of the corrupt South Vietnamese dictator, Ngo Dinh Diem
I was referring to the fact that Krushchev sacraficed himself to avoid a nuclear confrontation. He was expected to stand up to the americans, but he knew that would mean a nuclear exchange so he sacraficed his career, and stood down, and JFK made it much worse by making him look like the fool.

The peace corp?? seriously. The cuban missile crisis was a failure of JFK's own policies. He stacked up nuclear missiles right under the front door of the soviet union and thought they wouldnt do anything about it. Poor planning.

Kennedy was attacking his ships in international waters. The soviet navy was armed with nuclear weapons. Any opther soviet leader would have fought back. And it would have been with nuclear missiles. Krushchev chose not to.
