of of course thats what made it great, in retrospect. his stiffness, his expression of the english language. a feared, dark mythic eastern european "other". medieval old world horror and superstition threatening to infect our modern isolationist utopia...of 1932.

Lugosi was the master of horror truely a master the greatest movie actor who ever lived!

Actually, Vlad Dracula was the sun of Dracul who was born in Transylvania. His father was murdered by the Turkish sultan Murad. He became prince of Wallachia and spent his life fighting against with the Catholic church against the turks. He didn't really have anything to do with vampires except that there was a rumour that he dipped his bread in the blood of his enemies. He enjoyed to torture people and his favorite method was impalement upon a wooden stake.

They don't make them like this anymore.

Remember, Lugosi only learned English for the parts that he played. It must have been very hard for him to know exactly what emotion to portray while he was saying his lines.

You tell that to all the Sean Connery was the one and only James Bond people. They usually are anaware that Ian Fleming didn't like Sean Connery the first time he saw him since he wasn't at all like the James Bond in the novels.

gary oldman was amazing in that part-he's an incredible actor. I don't know if bela lugosi was necessarily the best, though he was the first. Sometimes ppl mistake one for the other

Dracul was a catholic Christian of hungaria of transyvania he didnt fear the cross and he had a reflection and his body wasnt in his coffin

You can't beat this version with acting (especially Bela) & atmosphere. The Mexican version at this time has merits. Later Dracs could not approach this level.

In my opinion, Bela Lugosi was alot better than Christopher Lee.

Bram Stoker does not intend his book Dracula to be a horror story.This is his critic on some member of the victorian society whose action and behaviour is comparable ro some blood suckling devil and justice will finally prevail to put an end to them.
