Songs have been updated with some song in Audioswap to comply with copyrights.

In this video I show how to take apart the 15" Macbook Pro and replace an old harddrive with a newer and higher capacity drive. This is done on a first generation 1.83ghz Macbook Pro.

The optical drive can also be replaced if you are not happy with your first generation 4x superdrive or 2nd generation 6x superdrive. Just be sure to get the special extra thin 9mm slot load burners.

You can also replace the optical drive in the Macbook Pro with a second harddrive if you wish with a special enclosure. I personally chose to keep my 4x superdrive.

  • This is a great ...

This is a great find! Western Digital just came out with a 500 GB 2.5 SATA HD. I'm lickin' my chops.

I'm still trying to connect the relationship angst going on in the music with this process. I hope there isn't too much of a connection there ;)

  • I can't remember ...

I can't remember exactly, but I think its because you have to format the drive to have the HFS journaling file system which is compatible with Mac OSX.

Anyway, it worked the way I did it in the video.

Thank you - that was veery helpful.
I wish the Apple store was that helpful.
5 day turnaround to replace a faulty HD, and they won't let you keep/borrow the old HD to do data recovery.
This took 20 minutes, and now I have 320GB :)

  • I didn't say to ...

I didn't say to check if its connected, I said to check if the connection is firm. Sometimes it could be a loose connection. Some things might work, but not quite right. Kind of like plugging your headphones in not quite all the way on an mp3 player of your choice produces sound in only one of the 2 speakers on the headphone.

    Test before closing the unit.

Also try external keyboard and mouse. If you want you can bring it to a genius bar at an apple store they'll test those kind of things free.

  • Yup. The power ...

Yup. The power button works fine, too, which is how I know it's connected. The ambient light sensor also lights up the keyboard when I cut off the lights in my house, but for some reason the keyboard and trackpad are the only parts that don't work.

The speakers even work! Although they're a little low, which is odd.
