  • Fibes: Mariah ...

    Fibes:

Mariah Carey fans seem to think that one long shriek is music, and have you ever heard Jackson in an interview? Her voice is hardly audible. I don't know whether the Fifth Dimension is the "creme de la creme" given how many great groups hailed from that era, but they are certainly head and shoulders above ANYTHING that is available today.

Today's music can't compare to eras gone by.

  • Darrin: Yes, just ...

    Darrin:

Yes, just as natural and unique as their talented vocals are, so is their natural physical beauty. They looked good and "tight" in an era sans personal trainers, diet consultants, and basically, when fitness wasn't taken as seriously as it is today.

Sadly, I don't think we'll ever see groups like the FD again. i.e., Groups such as EWF, War, or Kool and the Gang would get laughed out of a record executive's office today; "What, you can't reduce your "expensive" band by two-thirds?!

They don't look as good as Florence and Marilyn, either.

Songs and groups of this extreme talent were gifts from God for all of us born in the 1950's to enable us to look back and appreciate the great music that we experienced growing up!

I couldn't have put it better!! I cringe when I hear the Janet Jackson - Mariah Carey nonsense. This group was & remains the cream of the crop. Vocally, there was nothing they couldn't do & they were great entertainers who really gave the audience 100% each & every night.

In order, their "Aquarius" album yielded four more hit singles: "Working On A Groovy Thing," "Wedding Bell Blues," and "Blowing Away." All did well with "Blues" topping Billboard for three weeks in the same year ( 1969) "Aquarius" did it for six.

  • Wow, how about that ...

Wow, how about that? REAL music and REAL voices with beautiful orchestration and arrangements to accompany them. All I can say is thanks for the music and memories tied to the music you guys and gals of the past. It's all about shortcuts today.

And don't anyone dare call today's over synthesized shrieks and studio enhanced vocals music. Yes, this shot is aimed at the Janet Jacksons and Mariah Careys of the current music world. They can't hold a candle next to Florence and Marilyn.

Both girls had their allure. Marilyn classically sophisticated feminine, Florence light-hearted sensual. Both smmkin' stunners!
