the title Ustad is given to those who master an art or a craft or an instrument listening to mr gudaz he has mastered the sitar therefor is honered with the title Ustad
we as afghan's should be proud to have such talent we should respect and honer them

my point is Indian classic music evaulved between afghan pakistani and Indian, this is our instrument we should encoursge our people to learn and play.
you sound as we are not worthy of sitar we should play tanboor or gichak or you Afghan?

Tanboor was created by Turkish people during the Ottoman empire.
Setar (3 tar(string)) was created in greater kurasan now Afganistan and Iran and further evolved to Sitar 30 tar(string)by Nasir Khisraw Dehlawi whom was either from Balkh or Badakhshan but was living in India.

it is not a matter of whether or not i can do better. i was not comparing him with myself as the name is purely symbolic. It is whether or not we should call him Ustad. IF we do call him Ustad, then we have automatically (by default) have put him in the same categories of Ustad Valayet Khan, Ustad Shahid PervaZ Khan, Ustad Rais Khan etc. Afghans have an instrument called,Tanboor. i will leave it up to you to decide if he plays sitar or Tanboor. He may have gotten the title in painting.

If you can do better We will call you ustad too

i am wondering as to who gave this gentleman the Ustad Title. Although i must admit it is very common among afghans to call elderly musicians Ustad out of respect.
