BJJ pretty much copies exactly wat jujitsu is and claim to be the "inventor" of the technique, even going as far to claim the "kimura" lock as a GJJ technique haha yea right

wot... 1000's if years? japs history only expands 2000 years retard, where does 1000's of years come from? They ripped off their martial arts from china and korea anyway so whats so different about gracies calling the art their own?

LOL @ this technique defining GJJ. They didn't even use it until a couple DECADES after GJJ was born.

Real traditional JJ if a technique or person conducting the technique failed, they were likely killed on the battle field, hence only the most effective techniques in a real life or death battle would have been practiced. these people were also fighting against other highly trained warriors who devoted their life to fighting, not like the gracies who showcased there talents on people overweight people, with no JJ or grappling abilities for many years.

my point was BJJ made a softer sporty version of traditional JJ, which was used to kill and/or maim the opponent, JJ was tweaked and improved for 1000s of years on the battle field, how was the effectiveness improved by the gracies in a gym, partly the reason some of the techniques were adjusted was because helio was not flexible/agile enuff 2 corectly execute sum techniques, and there4 made it easier 4 people who had not trained their entire lives in JJ to be able 2 do the techniques.

Just because something is an art doesn't mean its for pussies. Any of the other budo were designed to kill but even the samurai (jap ELITE warriors) were artists Thats part of how they saw things. Everything had a system and philosophy behind it. That mentality is the major difference between the eastern cultures and the western ones. Bjj is more sporty, but my point was mostly Evolution of technique and practice. Not the definition of Jiu Jitsu

more effective? u mean more sporty and safer, JJ was a means of unarmed combat against a armored opponent where striking would not cause damage. Orginal JJ was a means to maim and kill the opponent not to submit. it was not an "art" it was a combat system made for killing on the battle field

I've never heard so much crap in my life, it directly comes from Judo, specifically Kosen Judo. The triangle choke, nor any of the positions were invented by BJJ they probably added more submissions but thats it. Check out Oda Ne Waza

The BJJ school up here gives credit to the fact that both Judo and Jiu Jitsu were learned in Japan. The thing about BJJ over JJ is the aproach. Everything i've seen so far (limited) is the same between the two. The line is between aproach, and mentality behind it. Remember to Japan most Martial Arts are still seen as an ART not so much Combat. So things are done the "OLD" way and little is given to the new approach, or tweaking little things to make it more effective. Much like 10th planet - BJJ

He said that defines BJJ.Look at Jiu-Jitsu fights and count how many triangle you will get and then got to BJJ. Your are right to say that he cannot claim to be the inventor. Martial Art is like natural language. English has a lot of French words but you don't say when it is French.

Hey I like these guys but come on the Triangle Choke is a Japaneese technique originate from Jiu-Jitsu. None of the devasting holds came from Gracie Jiu-Jitsu.
They don't give credit to the orgin of their sport, Jiu-Jitsu is japaneese and it's more of Gracie Judo than Jiu-Jitsu it's just that Gracie don't concentrate on the flipping aspect of Judo just it's ground technique, come on sell this the right way and stop taking credit for an art form that was around before Helio was even born!!!!!

good instructional video but im pretty sure they didnt invent the tri angle choke for the pivot pushing on the guys head really helps allot if the opponent is much heavier than you

They are the Paul Bunyan's of Brazil in the fact that they think they invented everything in MMA.

You're right, sankaku-jime has existed for a long time before BJJ... as do nearly all other submissions. However, BJJ's technical set-ups and variations to the triangle are a whole new world that other arts haven't emphasized. I'm a judoka in my earlier days. I definitely recommend checking out BJJ's views on basic subs as this one.
