I can't speak for the latest MacBooks but my friend's G4 PowerBook used to run so hot that he couldn't even put it on his lap even when idle. In fact it got so bad that the lower case began to eventually warp after ~6 months from purchase.
Be it PC or Mac; the laptops we have today have come a long way since then.

But it is funny that you mention that because just yesterday I was thinking of looking into writing a Linux OS to better secure my Windows System. I run a triple boot system with the following OS's Windows XP, Apple OSX Leopard, and Ubuntu Linux. But I have to insert an eSATA drive to boot the OSX Leopard. I will give XCode another shot, it's been a while since I've messed with it.

However, my Mac is a PC too...I have a partition running XP that I only allowed about 20 GB of hard drive space for (I only have one program that's Windows-only).

For the purposes of my doctoral dissertation in bio-math, Xcode allowed me to code up plenty of programs to run that helped me in writing it. Of course, I used fairly standard C++ in most of it. I do know there are some languages that are.....
