DHC1 Chipmunk flying Display at Omaka Classic Fighters Air Show 2007
Agreed! That's why I visit airshows and stay away from any speaker around.

At a school CCF summer camp at RAF Colerne, Hullavington or Halton. As I recall him, the pilot was Polish, and must have been bored taking about 15 lads on 10 minute 'bumps & circuits'. Remember doing a loop, and being asked to 'have-a-go' by holding the joystick and told to 'keep it level' - happy days!

It would start to shudder (losing speed), but I could see Oxfd through gap in clds. they gave us chutes, I was sure we going to have to bail out. One of my friends filled out my chit with instructions to the pilot that I wanted to do a loop and a parachute jump! He not very impresd + a bit woried that I wanted to try dispear mid flight until I explained.

I flew out from RAF Shawbury as passenger on a short flight whilst serving with the Royal Observer Corps back in 1988. It was a very special experience as the weather was foul. Didn't need my sick bag, but it was in my hand more than once. Dream about that day often. Priceless. Good old D H Chipmunk, never missed a beat, this video brings it all back.

I flew these at Leeds University in the UK in the 60's and the commentator is right - it's one of the smoothest and easiest aerobatic performers you can fly. As he also says - when you do a stall turn or very slow roll the engine actually stops as there is no inverted fuel supply!
