  • I agree. Walmart's ...

I agree. Walmart's plants seem to be a bit whacked out to me. I'm a walmart shopper but the garden veggies just don't seem very good to me. I have no idea if they're suited for my area because I have no clue where the plants come from. But then again as he says, sometimes in a rural area you have few if any options. Hmmmm....tough call I guess. I feel bad about his tomatos.

I was planing to put another garden on the other side of the patio next year so i will use it for Tomatoes and peppers and use this one for other stuff. It looks like the Fungi or bacterial stuff is on the money. There is an horticulturist a few blocks away and if i can show him one of the plants and pick his brain i will post what he thinks it is. Thanks folks.

  • Bummer. I am going ...

Bummer. I am going to pull the other two or three plants and see if the rest will make it. The bell peppers, banana peppers and jalapeno plants right next to them are fine so far. The plants are better boy and big boy, i have no idea what the real names of them are. All from the Walmart here in town. Most of the tomatoes i see in town look the same. We might have gotten a bad batch from the store. Small town and not any other place to buy plants here.

  • You seem to have ...

You seem to have Fusarium or Verticillium fungi which affects and kills the vascular portion of the stem and basically cuts off water flow. Symptoms are yellowing leaves starting at ground level and brownish stems. Are these heirloom tomatos? If so, they are very susceptible. There's no cure. The plants need to be destroyed and if possible, don't plant tomatos, peppers or potatos in that spot for 3-4 years. Sorry to be the bearer of bad tidings. By the way, it wasn't anything you did wrong

  • Bacterial wilt I ...

Bacterial wilt I believe you have. There is nothing you can do since this is a soil born disease. Destroy the plants, and dont compost them. Put them in a trash bag and bring to the dump.

  • I am not an expert ...

I am not an expert but if you could add some nice compost to your soil. Just dig it in around the plant. Also, looks like they need some serious water. Good Luck.
