Title: Rock Brigade (track 01)

Artist: Def Leppard
Album: On Through The Night
Year: 1980
Label: Mercury
Writer(s): Joe Elliott, Steve Clark, Rick Savage

Lyrics:

Well, in the middle of the night
And the early morning light
You can hear them a million miles away
They'll be bangin' on their drums bangin' on your door
Waving their flags telling you to score

Watch out for the rock brigade (rock brigade)
Oh no, it's the rock brigade (rock brigade)
Look out for the rock brigade
Leading you away, away

So when they hit your town you'd better get down
I'm telling no lies to you mister
Cause they live for rock'n'roll
They'll try to steal your soul
Might even try to steal your sister

Watch out for the rock brigade (rock brigade)
Oh no it's the rock brigade (rock brigade)
Look out for the rock brigade
Leading you away, away, away

So in the middle of the night or the early morning light
If you hear them comin' your way
Well you'd better watch your step don't step out of line
Cause here they come one more time

Watch out for the rock brigade (rock brigade)
Oh no it's the rock brigade (rock brigade)
Look out for the rock brigade (rock brigade)
You better watch for the rock brigade (rock brigade)
I say watch out for the rock brigade (rock brigade)
Keep your eyes on the rock brigade (rock brigade)
Don't let your eyes off the rock brigade (rock brigade)
They'll be leading you away, away, away

  • You're exactly ...

You're exactly right. Steve Clark was their main song writer. It's a shame he died. But, Pete Willis was the real genius behind the early success of the band. They would never have made it without him. What did he get for it? They fired him. In my humble opinion, High "N Dry was the last GREAT album.

  • This and High and ...

This and High and Dry are the most kick ass of their albums. Hard core. Agree with everything you said. Nothing is that good after Hysteria b/c Steve Clark, who wrote most of their songs, died. Amazing that the band disowns the first 2 albums. Are they nuts? They "jumped the shark" when they lip-sinked "Pour some..." on Dancing with the Stars. I had to puke.

This is still my favorite Def Leppard album. Although I do enjoy their other stuff up to Hysteria, I love the riffs and overall sound on this album, particularly Rock Brigade, Answer to the Master, and Satellite. The whole album rocks though.

I mean, Joe always looked fine, but it's a bad sign when a rock band concentrates too much on sex appeal.

Well, I wouldn't go that far. After High N Dry, they sounded a lot more electronic and less gritty.

Can't help noticing the band members got a lot "nicer" looking in Pyromania. Especially Joe's mop turning blonde. I mean, as a normal-functioning female, I have no complaints. But still. How can you entrust your musical future to the man who's producer/married to Shania Twain!?

Amazing band in the irony that each album became weaker but commercially stronger.
Really promising NWOBHM / rock band became a pink puffy joke. :-(
