  • I'm staying out of ...

I'm staying out of the "Christianity VS Atheism" debate that apparently follows every Christian video and am just going to say that I find this video hilarious.

"Look, I don't care if you have five kids; you're fired! Oh, hold on a minute, mom."

As my husband says "I have NEVER met an atheist who wasn't a Christian who was upset that God didn't give them what they asked for" (never mind that God doesn't always answer prayers the way we think He should)

    from askegg:

Are theists not affected by personal preference, social custom or survival?
    **************************
    from me :)

Answer the question as is. Answer the question within the context of atheism, don't point other people.

  • (with atheists)I ...

(with atheists)I have questioned all that I need to question about Christianity. I just noticed that atheists are so fond of bashing Christians I would like to view the atheists side and what makes them think that their belief is superior than theists, deists and Christians'

  • And it funny that ...

And it funny that you indicated on your profile "Science is the search for the truth of reality as we can experience it."

Science is the biggest failure of all time. If it was successful, then nobody should die. It also invented nuclear weapons that created leukemia, WMDs ! Science cannot search for the truth

  • "give me a basis ...

"give me a basis for ethics beyond mere personal preference, social custom, or survival. "

I can't for that is from where our morals spring.

Your above statement is akin to me saying "Show me a way the universe was created without the requirement for an all powerful, all knowing being". The question negates the answer and in doing so becomes unanswerable.

Are theists not affected by personal preference, social custom or survival?

  • Prove it! Show me ...

Prove it! Show me some evidence that there is no God- said darlinglife

    and askegg said:

    That's a stupid argument.

Show me that Allah, Baal, Zeus, Thor, Apollo, yadayadayada..

    ********************************

This is again a false assertion. When an interrogative such as Does God exist? is debated each side must shoulder the burden of proof and provide support for what they consider to be the correct answer.

  • give me a basis for ...

give me a basis for ethics beyond mere personal preference, social custom, or survival. Even post-modern philosophers have come to the conclusion that there is no hope of finding morality or meaning based on materialistic presuppositions

  • "My definitions are ...

"My definitions are much the same as anyone elses"

    *******************

Nope, that statement is wrong not everybody uses the golden rule as a basis. The golden rule is vague, what is good for you may not be good for me. So theres no adequate basis for morality within atheistic premises at all.

  • Tricky as religion ...

Tricky as religion has hijacked all the "good things" in life and promoted them as the consequence of belief. The golden rule is a wonderful distillation of our morality.

My definitions are much the same as anyone elses:
    Good = pleasing others
Bad = Inflicting pain or suffering on others

  • Atheism is not a ...

Atheism is not a belief system - it is the absence of *one* belief. As such it offer no more than the disbelief in pixies.

  • How did it start to ...

How did it start to reproduce? Being asexual is different than a hermaphrodite, please explain. How did the two species know that they would come together? how did they make it so long without it, then all of a sudden start?

If it could survive without lungs it didn't need them. it didn't have to breathe, explain this as well. You merely touched the surface with your argument. Are you saying that there is an animal that exists (or we have a fossil record) that has no lungs or gills?
