damm good run tho. you'd think the industry would have learned from a decade of John "Flaming" Force barbecueing the fiberglass...sure would've helped here, as i suspect the explosion/fire was survivable, but not the impact.

there is nothing wrong with the track at english town, i race there very often (not top fuel of course) but with my car, and sometimes i watch my friends race... but the problem with this accident isnt that the yrack is too short... its that car's fire parashoots didnt deploy and/or didnt deploy completly, and he was going so fast for anything the sand trap, fence and even if there were water barrels wouldnt have helped. this is a true tragity... rest in peace scott from a local...

Something else. Scott was not knocked out during the first explosion. The car went far too straight and if you look closely (just before he hits the sand-trap) you will see the car do a little wiggle which tells me that he was hard on the breaks. He drove that car from the starting line to the impact. R.I.P. Scott, you will be missed by all of us.

The problem with the dragstrip at Englishtown is that the shut-down area (where the cars decelerate) is too short. There is a sand-trap and catch-net at the end to slow an out of control car. However, the sand-trap is also too short. When this facility was built back in the 1960s, these cars were running in the 150 to 200 mph range. The solution is actually simplier than having water-barriers. Reduce the starting line to finish line to the 1000' or 1/8th mile mark.
