CARLITO'S WAY is a crime drama directed and crafted by Brian De Palma -released in 1993. Al Pacino plays Puerto Rician hoodlum and ex-con 'Carlito Brigante', sprung from jail by his sneaky, coke-fuelled lawyer - a barely recognisable Sean Penn ('Dave Kleinfeld'). Carlito is determined to go straight.
He buys into a night club and begins saving money to move to the Bahamas. However, as he meets up with his old acquaintances, his pride and reputation draw him back into the underworld of New York City.
Penn, who fancies himself as a gangster, persuades Pacino into a mad scheme to rescue a criminal-client from a prison barge.

A fine supporting cast includes the following characters;
'Pachanga' (Luis Guzmán) -friend of Carlito, bodyguard and gangster.
'Saso' or 'Ron' (Jorge Porcel) -nightclub owner and gambling addict.
'Benny Blanco' (John Leguizamo) -young gangster from the Bronx.
'Gail' (Penelope Ann Miller) -former lover and Broadway dancer.
'Lalin' (Viggo Mortensen) -former friend and ex-con.
'Norwalk' (James Rebhorn) -District Attorney
'Steffie' (Ingrid Rogers) -nightclub assistant.

The film received a lukewarm reception upon its theatrical release, but later has gradually become a cult movie through both home video and repeated TV broadcasts.

The music from the soundtrack is provided by the O'Jays -Walter Williams, William Powell, and Eddie Levert.
BACK STABBERS was written by Leon Huff, Gene McFadden and John Whitehead -virtually launching the 'Gamble and Huff' PIR label in 1972.
After the opening piano flourish of 'Back Stabbers' the soulful vocals sing about the nerve-hitting tale of betrayal, hypocrisy, jealous-hating and two-faced devious people.
