yeh well when you run out of breath your knocked out, and you cant hold your breath while unconscious can you? and obviously you do breath when your unconscious cause if you didn't that'd mean fainting is fatal...

Not sure about this one but i think, when you hold your breath long enough for there to be not enough oxygen in your brain you fall unconscious and when your in that unconscious state your body automatically starts respiration again? possibly im not sure anyone else know?
