A very beautiful plane. I'm just sorry I've never had the chance to see it fly. Living in the USA, it was a rare bird to see. I only hope they can build another bird like it that is more fuel efficient and carries more people.

  • This was because ...

This was because all airlines resigned their orderings even before Concorde was handed out because of the high operating costs. Imagine that at that time a Boeing 747 already was able to carry three times the passengers of Concorde with twice the range of Concorde by the same fuel consumption and even five times less maintenance required. Only BA and AF were left to operate Concorde because they had to. BA made profit, but not that profit you make with an modern up-to-date fleet...

  • From the mid 80's ...

From the mid 80's BA made profit. But 9/11 had some bad economic effects as well as rising costs for space parts of EADS. Condorde only was profitable if 50% seats were booked. But after the crash in Paris there were flights with only 20 passengers. That, together with the economic effects was the final end of Conorde. It was an amazing airplane, but never a real success. When the contracts were made in the 70's, the BA chairmen already said: "this is the beginning of the end"

BA actually made a nice profit from the aircraft, even after 9/11. Air France didn't as their route wasn't as popular.
