  • Don't dis Capoeira

Jump kicking was invented to kill in battle people riding horses. I don't know if anyone else here noticed, but they never use their best attack in so called "fights", their massive double-foot jump kick. You CAN NOT block that, you can move, and even then the leverage advantage they would have after you literally jumped out of the way would be huge. Capoeria KILLS when REALLY used. If someone tried to block that, they would break at least two bones. There are MANY martial arts more deadly than what you see on UFC, including what you see of Aikido. Those nifty "throws" you see don't happen most of the time. They are manipulting JOINTS. If they don't jump and flip, and their instructor did not hold back, you would have broken fingers, dislocated and broken bones, and no throat. Don't believe sporting events as real occurences. Don't get me wrong, I love Jujitsu, but honestly, how many fights are between you and ONE other person? Unless you manage to break an arm or something before the grappling starts, you're screwed. You'll get kicked in the head with a boot while trying to "choke someone out". It is also why other striking martial arts are becoming MUCH more effective now, especially karate, now that many fighters are trained in grappling.

  • what joe eigo do ...

what joe eigo do isn't capoeira..just random moves
the origin of capoeira is in colonial Brazil by slaves who need defend yourselfs and uses in a combat for kill or knock out an opponent..
is nice read some peoples who said capoeira is a "dance".. show to us the capacity of slaves to confuse the mind os peoples for years.. a capoeirist know fight when need fight, and play when need play..
anyway.. i like all martial arts, and i don't thing have a better m.a., ever is good..

then why don't you do so? learn all those styles, cut out the stuff you think is not effective and combine principles. Not easy, but possible

  • I wonder if Aikido ...

I wonder if Aikido trains to counter every kind of strike. There are some strikes (kinda) in Capoeira that are uncommon in other disciplines.

  • That's because ...

That's because aikido, while it is supoosed to be balanced, leads towards being a major grapple and throw skill. It's typically a countering art...notice in each video the one who actually used aikido well didnt strike first.

  • Capoeira makes ...

Capoeira makes little sense to me: it seems like too much training for not alot of combat skill. Though it has crazy acrobatics whiich impress the hell out of me.
Aikido is always an amazing martial art; it's only flaw is that it's striking is worthless in a real fight.
Drunken boxing..? very good... Kinda silly, would be good for intimidation and is an effective striking and fair evasion art but there's no grappling...
It would impress me if someone mixed all three into one art form.

  • My biggest problems ...

My biggest problems with Capoeira is the fact that a) they can't take a punch, and b) when they get into a fight they're gonna need a lot of room and space to do what they do good at. Capoeira is good for keeping your opponent at a distance so they can't get too close to you, but if you happen to go up against someone who is good at either kickboxing, Muay Thai or is a good grappler then the person using Capoeira is screwed. I basically see Capoeira as a good stepping stone into another style.

  • It's true, Capoeira ...

It's true, Capoeira in general is not a practical style for use against other martial arts. BUT it's got it's advantages as a fighting style. The first, is that, in a street fight, any martial art is better than none. Second, a lot of Capoeirra techniques are so unusual and unorthodox that most martial artists will not be trained to defend against them.

  • as a martial artist ...

as a martial artist learning my own style from family(which is muy thai, kempo, judo, shaolin, drunken fist, and tai chi) I see a similarity in all martial arts but the unique things about these styles is that they all have to be applied differently because those you face arent always the same. Laugh at them but they are learned widely for a reason. they work if used right. i wish i could post some of the sessions i do with friends of different martial arts. you can see the change in styles.
