A bit of a 'scrapheap challenge', really. I bought the Marklin train set off E-bay but didn't want to spend any money on the layout. I had a look at what was in the garage and what was left over from my OO layout and used what I found.

Result: The layout cost me nothing!

    Thanks NF, the secret is to paint the water area darker in the middle (where it's deeper)and paler towards the shore. Then pour varnish onto the area (not too much!) and as it's drying and gets tacky, stipple it with a brush. Once it's all dry, brush on a final coat of varnish.
