By editke59 [Affiliate User] 1206064766 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removeim not against this but were i leave we have -40c temp in the winter, i have a 454 big block in my 3/4ton truck to keep up with the heat and i do alot of plowing. i just don't see how they can run a car and a heater and make the battery last. no offence to anyone but i see this down south as a around town car or a toy, i don't see it in the north of canada, nor do i see electricity replacing gas engines or diesel in the working world.

By KXrhyder547 [Affiliate User] 1205417892 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveWith this post, you prooved you know nothing concerning the topic. Compare electric motors to combustion engines. Look into how efficient the motors are and then do a few simple calculations on how far you can actually go. Where does the energy come from? Its the fact that it is so damn efficient.
By mickelsd [Affiliate User] 1205412990 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removewhy wold you ruin a ariel atom with a stupid elictric motor you have to recarge every 100 meter. its just stupid, and where does the elektric energy come from?..... I guess a coal plant or somthing
By morphex9903 [Affiliate User] 1205411443 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveSomething else you might find iteresting. In the US ~30% of total generation is for residental use. The average household uses ~30kW-hr a day. Tesla roadster has ~53kW-hr for a range of over 200 miles. So, if every houshold in america drives 200 miles a day, US generation would have to increase ~50%. This is not exponential growth, and would not be an instantaneous increase. Even if we burned coal to make that 50%, it would be far cleaner than what we burn currently.
By mickelsd [Affiliate User] 1205337502 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveAt present it would not, however, we are not talking about a 30% increase in a single year. The reason for the massive CA blackouts 6-7 years ago wasn't because we didn't have enough generation, nor was it a weak transmission grid. It was enron manipulating the market to drive the MW-hr price way up... I realize batteries have a limited amount of charges before becoming obsolete, however, as I said, recycle. Measures can be taken to extend the life.
By mickelsd [Affiliate User] 1205336511 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down Remove97% of the battery itself is reused. And 5% may be an accurate number when including AA's etc, however we are not talking about that are we? 90% of lead acid car batteries are recycled.
By mickelsd [Affiliate User] 1205336149 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveAlso if u think 97% of batteries are recycled u need to think again, as most end up in landfill. something silly like 5% of all batteries are recycled! look it up! there are over 30 million cars on the road and climbing! of course we will need a considerable higher amount!
By Tobymilleruk1 [Affiliate User] 1205327537 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removeright, "at a stupid rate" was supposed to be in brackets, i obviously missed them out! and believe it or not, our electrical infrastructure would not be able to handle the high demand, also batteries have limited amount of charges before becoming obsolete.
By Tobymilleruk1 [Affiliate User] 1205327479 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down Remove"dump them in the see when theyre dead?"
I answered this below.
"demand for electricity would expand exponentially at a stupid rate"
Its hard for me to take you seriously when you threw in at the end "stupid rate," lol. Anywho, what is so scary about this? We can generate up to 20% of our energy from wind, we can expand geothermal a bit, and do nuclear for the rest. I don't think the demand will rise as much as you think though (definately not exponential)...
Dude, your talking out your ass... Efficiency=Pout/Pin... Combustion engines are in the 20% range, while EV's are up in the 70's and ever increasing with developments in power electronics... I am actually a supporter of fuel cells. Anyway, it does not matter if batteries are biodegradable or not, all the batteries used in EV's can be broke down and used in other products, roughly 97% of the batteries are reused when they are recycled. Research what happens to the other 3%.
By mickelsd [Affiliate User] 1205314277 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removeyoure a moron, u do realise the demand for electricity would expand exponentially at a stupid rate! so we create all these batteries to handle cars, then what? dump them in the see when theyre dead? u dont know do you! cos ur short sighted! PWNED!
By Tobymilleruk1 [Affiliate User] 1205297035 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removedid u write it twice for emphasis? haha!
By Tobymilleruk1 [Affiliate User] 1205296925 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removelike how? solar? wind? lol nuclear? gasoline is the most efficient means of power for cars at the moment, if we use our technology and research to make the engines more efficient, thus using less petrol we can slowly fix the problem, but alot faster than we are now.
the petrol companies use their money and power to stop this happening though, and making idiots think another form of power is the answer is just another one of their plans
the batterys are non biodegradeable... enough said
