  • I agree with ...

I agree with Richard, I was head singer for this group, which is owned by Alex Tekurio, who is tahitian. He named his competition, the Hura Tahiti competition. Hura, is just another polynesian word, or should i say, Ma'ohi(tahitian), or Maori(New Zealand), or Mao'i(Samoan)...etc... so i hope I've helped you understand, just alittle bit more. I hope i don't come across as putting you down? Just giving all who'll read this, more understanding of us(Maori,Ma'ohi,Mao'i, Ma'oli...)
    Thanks you.

  • You can't spell ' ...

You can't spell 'Ōte'a right, so I won't take your word on it. If you have lived in Tahiti as you claimed, then you would know words like hurarau, huratamau, huraavatau - all words are related to dance and share the root word hura. Specifically, these words describe different levels of dancers. Hula, hura, ura - root words throughout Polynesia. That is my point. There's not need for you to be divisive about who owns the word, the fact is, it belongs to all of Polynesia.

  • Dear Richard ...

Dear Richard Wolfgramm, I've family in Tahiti & Hawaii by marriage, spent part of my childhood in Papeete & have also visited Penrhyn(Cook Is.)I've studied both Tahitian and Hawaiian languages & cultures. The Tahitian word for dance is O'tea, Tamure is the style of dance in Tahiti and "hula" is found in Hawaii not Tahiti. (Very different dances!) My post had nothing to do with Samoa/Tonga but I see & respect your passion. Thank you for writing and Keep the Faith, Sam
