I was intrigued for a while about the pyramids until it was pointed out to me that the technology available to early civilizations was such that the easiest structure to create of any height was in fact the pyramid. Goes to reason this would be a 'Standard' method for any culture to show off.

What about the great conspiracy of square and rectangular buildings. They were formed independently all throughout the world. No one says anything about how the aliens gave us that basic architectural design before giving us the second most basic design of the dome. There is no way that people from different cultures would ever build the same style of structure just because it looks cool.
