From the 1973 production:Judas'Death. This excerpt is from my friend Aspenas:"from the beginning, Judas warns Jesus about what he is doing as if he was trying to open Jesus' eyes to what's likely to come. Also, he "sings" that he did what Jesus wanted him to do. That is definitely something clear even in the Bible. It was all planned".His resolution is surprising.
Lyrics:
JUDAS
My God! I saw him.
He looked three-quarters dead!
And he was so bad I had to turn my head.
You beat him so hard that he was bent and lame,
And I know who everybody's going to blame.
I don't believe he knows I acted for our good.
I'd save him all this suffering if I could.
Don't believe...our good...
And I'd save him if I could...
ANNAS
Cut the confessions, forget the excuses.
I don't understand why you're filled with remorse.
All that you've said has come true with a vengeance.
The mob turned against him, you backed the right horse.
CAIAPHAS
What you have done will be the saving of everyone.
You'll be remembered forever for this.
And not only that, you've been paid for your efforts.
Pretty good wages for one little kiss.
JUDAS
Christ, I know you can't hear me,
But I only did what you wanted me too.
Christ, I'd sell out the nation,
For I have been saddled with the murder of you.
I have been spattered with innocent blood.
I shall be dragged through the slime and the mud.
I have been spattered with innocent blood.
I shall be dragged through the slime and the slime and the slime
and the mud!
I don't know how to love him.
I don't know why he moves me.
He's a man. He's just a man.
He is not a king. He is just the same
As anyone I know.
He scares me so!
When he's cold and dead will he let me be?
Does he love me too? Does he care for me?
My mind is in darkness.
God, God I'm sick. I've been used,
And you knew all the time.
God! I'll never ever know why you chose me for your crime.
For your foul bloody crime
You have murdered me! ...have murdered me
murdered me!
murdered me!
murdered me!
murdered me!
murdered me!
murdered...-
CHOIR
Poor old Judas. So long Judas.
Wow, you're completly proving my point for me, thanks.
By QueenofHearts69 [Affiliate User] 1206293971 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveUsing a shot gun? What is wrong with you? You're the one getting all bent out of shape over nothing. Again. Rock. Opera. From. The. Seventies. Bunch. O. Hippies. Not the second coming of some possible religeous figure from whenever.
Did I ever call you an asshole? Seriously. I think it's shrink time for you, sweety.
Also, your comment was aimmed it me, because you were using a shotgun. And you should really stop getting up in arms about people arguing over the internet. It's sad.
And I'm not being an asshole right, you're just looking in a mirror.
Maybe you should get off your horse, since you seem so content on telling people is and isn't proper.
By SeannyOg [Affiliate User] 1206291816 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveWhat? I'm not sure where you're getting that I'm arguing.. stating facts, that's what I'm doing.
By QueenofHearts69 [Affiliate User] 1206287292 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveBudding? I believe you mean "butting". And no, it's not only "slightly related". Besides, get off your high horse, my original comment wasn't even aimed towards you, you just decided to get up in arms. You really need to calm down. IT'S A ROCK OPERA. It's not life or death so again, get over it.
By QueenofHearts69 [Affiliate User] 1206287253 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveYou're confused about the term protagonist. A protagonist can be "good" or "bad." All a protagonist is is the central character. More so than Jesus, this film is about the torment of Judas--as the central character. He is the protagonist.
By dabearsrock3 [Affiliate User] 1206275484 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveBy your logic you shouldn't be budding into our argument because it's only slightly related.
By SeannyOg [Affiliate User] 1206260255 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveSo why are you arguing?
By SeannyOg [Affiliate User] 1206259696 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveDid I say it was over the movie? No. If it was I wouldn't have said anything. It's the fact that you're arguing over something that may or may not have happened with possible figures at some point in time when the videos subject matter is rock opera. I mean, we may as well start talking about shoes, and the history of them, simply because people wore them in the movie, right? No? Then we should try sticking to the subject matter. A rocking movie with a bunch o'hippes and such.
By QueenofHearts69 [Affiliate User] 1206241194 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down Remove..The point is there is one. Why? It's a movie from the freaking 70's. Talk about the movie, maybe the actors, there's no point in bitching about what some possible guy, in the possible best did/acted/behaved/whatever. That's what this vid is about.
By QueenofHearts69 [Affiliate User] 1206241078 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveHow does this portray Judas as a protagonist? He betrayed the man who he professed his loyalty to. Does this help us understand his torment better? yes. Is he portrayed as a protagonist? No.
By poolorapond [Affiliate User] 1206240733 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveWatching this film, I wonder if the protaganist actually is Judas, and not - as we allow ourselves to believe - Jesus.
By p3rs0nan0ngrata [Affiliate User] 1206214746 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveDid you even bother to read the argument?
By SeannyOg [Affiliate User] 1206207076 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveThe argument wasn't over the movie, it was over the nature of Judas's betrayal of Jesus.
By SeannyOg [Affiliate User] 1206206984 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveI'm not quite sure why people are turning this vid into a religous debate and such. It's not like this movie is meant to be historically accurate. Or are we to believe Harrod was a pool party throwing playboy and that Judas came back to Jesus in a disco loving musical number? Really people, calm down. It's a movie. A movie about a man from long ago. Let's focus on the funloving songs and try not have such large hissy fits.
By QueenofHearts69 [Affiliate User] 1206198429 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveAre you seriously trying to have a religous argument on a rock opera with hippies in it? That's sad. Not everyone will believe in your god. So, unless you're going to start believing in Allah, Buddah, Muhammahd, and Zeus, you should really try and stop being so damn critical of people with different beliefs, "bubba".
By QueenofHearts69 [Affiliate User] 1206198274 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveNo, what's really humorous is people can't seem to see the in inherent silliness of some of the things the bible states and how it conflicts with others.
Also, if no-one can comprehend God, why should I even bother with the any of the religions that claim to profess his will? Why should I even bother trying to be perfect like God if I don't know where to start.
What's humorous is that you actually think you are smarter than what others believe. No human can comprehend what God is all about... not one.
By bubba85715 [Affiliate User] 1206159088 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveGod chose Judas to do it because he knew thatin the future him and Jesus would be the best of friends. And Jesus asked him to do it as he was the only one strong enough to do it.
But i think Judas got into heaven as Judas did ask to be forgiven and Christ forgives all who wan't to be forgiven.
I agree with you, in this film it is really more dramatic.
By minteva22 [Affiliate User] 1206025387 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveThis song particularly becomes gripping when Judas finishes singing a reprise of "I Don't Know How to Love Him", and he starts running up the stairs. The music in that part really gives you a chill down your spine. I sometimes quiver when I hear it. It's somewhat similar to the Crucifixion in that when both Judas and Jesus die, the sounds suddenly cut off completely. Extremely effective.
By LilbunUWiz [Affiliate User] 1206007757 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removeyou really got to be a hater like that?
besides, if god choose me to betray my bff and they beat him... and all that happened to me... i wouldn't want to see that death that i caused. i probably would have done the same. i mean. God coming down as Jesus showed him humility so... he would understand human emotions better, and probably be sympathetic. you know? or is this not at all how you interpret the bible?
judas' death is definately more dramatic than the crucifixion
By youdontknowjack24 [Affiliate User] 1205875866 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveI'm also an agnostic, although I do usually find religious stories really interesting. I'm pretty sure that Superstar doesn't represent the "popular" view of Judas, but it's the one that I tend to like the best. It seems more human, and it is more understandable. It also makes for a better story, I think, than the common, more sinister, portrayal that most people adhere to.
