Just did it just like you said... I'd always put the text in the text box, but got frustrated when I tried to move it... also, thanks for the clear explanation of why to save something to a PSD ... I've just been flattening everything (it's for someone's wedding show and I have originals, but I didn't know I could save them and change things I didn't like) So there really was alot of good, useful information! I thought this video was great, I learned a new way to enter text which I am going to try right now (even tho' it's 2 am) AND I wish I'd found this a few weeks ago when I tried to import a photo and couldn't and couldn't find any help out there! Thanks for the good work, I subscribed too! I was competent in other programs but felt way over my head when I started--wish I'd found this then, would have saved a lot of stress!

believe me, not everyone knows how to open a document in PS-- I had used lots of other programs but still couldn't get a picture in PS and couldn't find anywhere to help... so don't trash someone's hard work that helps other people! I eventually figured it out myself, but it was definitely the hard way!

I've tried to duplicate your situation, but must admit that I can't. I do know, however, that you can't add or manipulate any pixels on a smart object. You should be able to make a selection, but all you can really do is Cmd/Ctrl J it to a new layer where it becomes a raster(non-smart object) graphic. Are you using the rectangular marquee tool? And what is the desired effect you're looking to achieve?

I have a question. When I try to use the smart object, or quick mask, as soon as I have my selected area while holding down the left button on my mouse and let go, it completely disappears as if I never used it. If you could get back to me on this, it'd be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
