PART 3 in SERIES - In this lesson I take you through five really common blues licks that come from position 1 of the minor pentatonic scale. These are some 'words' to get you started nd hopefully help you when you come to transcribe your own solos.

Taught by Justin Sandercoe.

Full support at the web site where you will find hundreds of lessons on a wide range of subjects, and all the scales and chords that you will ever need! There is a great forum too to get help, no matter what the problem.

And it is all totally free, no bull. No sample lessons, no memberships. Just tons of great lessons :)

To get help with your lesson look up the number at the start of the video title (like ST-666 or whatever) on the Lesson Index page.

Good luck and take care, J

  • A lot of it is ...

A lot of it is practice, but if you're having trouble you can use 9's. So the lightest string will be a 9, the heaviest a 42 I believe. Look for packs of strings like that.

  • it's personal ...

it's personal preference, you could try a lighter gauge, that makes it easier to bend, but you lose tone. I use 9-46s, love em!

I'm using Ernie ball regular slinkies -- anyone know how good that is for bends? I'm having quite a bit of difficulty with the full tone bends.

dahlermaniel he uses his pinky a lot! but bending with pinky is just stupid. evry finger has his strength and pinky is useless with bends. Big guitar players even try to use pinky less because it's a weak finger and in bends itc it sux

  • A thicker string ...

A thicker string gauge will make it harder to bend them, but a good blues sound comes from thicker strings, so it's a trade off. I use 11's which lets me bend the strings comfortably without a thin sound
