never saw this movie,but i like trailer. i would like to see it.

I thought she had made up the fictional Julie based on her own frustrations, and her longing to be as free as Julie appeared to be at first, because at the end she sees the real Juile and isnt surprised or shocked...

that was my first impression of the film and i still believe it. Although according to a review i read she didnt made up the story. Julie pretended to be John's real daughter...but i still believe he first scenario!! :)

maybe im wrong, but for me... She made up the crime and the hole history in order to write her book, isn't?

It all depends on the guy, but for me, I'd probably want to hang out with Julie and have a blast just being with her and how open and free she is. But in the long run, I probably want to live with Sarah and feel a sense of comfort when going home.

As for being a fan of Ozon, this is actually the only film of his I've ever seen. I don't watch a lot of foreign films unless they really catch my eye like Swimming Pool did. But I have been wanting to check out his other work since seeing it.

I think that is one of the most important aspects. Sarah is drawn to Julie and the free spirited nature of her lifestyle, yet still keeps herself very restrained. She even helps Julie cover up Franck's murder, which I think speaks volumes.

Also, I think there's something to be said about the male viewer and their experiences with the two.

This helped me a lot. I understood a bit of the voyeurism/lesbian angle of it, and the two women are indeed very very different :)
I liked Julie's character a lot, and the sort of psychological torture that Sarah went through when she had to live with her : to me, she was very attracted by her lifestyle, and by her personnality. I liked the fact that this takes place near the Marquis de Sade's castle, that was deeply symbolical. Are you a fan of Ozon?

I would advise you to watch the film again with what I've written in mind and try to see beyond the surface of what it offers. I hope that's helpful.

Julie and Sarah also represent two conflicting personalities, perhaps of Sarah herself if you wanna go really deep. While Sarah represents the restricted, restrained woman(as demonstrated in the party scene with Franck), Julie represents the youthful, almost anarchy driven side. There's also a voyeurism/lesbian angle during the moments where Sarah watches and seems to study Julie. In all, there is so much more to the movie than what I've written.

Every person sees the film differently, so I'll try my best to explain the movie as I saw it. By the end of the film, it's revealed to us that Julie, or at least the Julie that Sarah was interacting with, was not even real. This is amplified by John's real daughter passing Sarah as she leaves his office and not even recognizing her. Clues about her real nature are dropped throughout the film, which I'll admit are hard to catch on first viewing.
