http://www.msc.es/gabinetePrensa/notaPrensa/desarrolloNotaPrensa.jsp?id=1179

I helped sand bag later thursday night as well. Was an experience.

  • Thank you for the ...

Thank you for the time and heart you gave to give us this thoughtful, sensitive story. In the midst of all this chaos, you were foresighted enough to know history needed to be recorded. We will someday look back on your video with hopefully less grief. I know we will look back and be dignified the passionate response of everyone. I've never been

  • From your neighbor ...

From your neighbor to the South (Missouri) I hope everyone is staying safe and I'm so sorry for everyone who's lost thier homes and businesses. We've had a ton of rain here too and some of the neighborhoods have been flooded up to four feet deep but I can't even imagine what it would be like to go through something like that! My thoughts and prayers are with you Iowa...I'll be there next month hopefully when it's dry again.

  • They put those rail ...

They put those rail cars (full of rock, by the way) on the bridge in the hope that the extra weight would prevent the collapse. Which, obviously, it did not.

musthavejava, that still doesn't take away from the fact that looters are apart of floods, or any major catastrophe for that matter. Looking to the future is a good thing, no?

  • Melissa, the river ...

Melissa, the river crested yesterday (Saturday) about noon. The water is rapidly receeding but the damage has been done. The stench is horrific from sewage, oil, gas that have entered the flooded areas. The folks really getting it bad are in Iowa City. The spillway at the reservoir is so out of control they do not expect the Iowa river to crest until Tuesday or Wednesday. We have been blessed by the thousands of people who have shown up to sandbag. Also families have rally absorbed folks.

  • We have been ...

We have been blessed by the lack of looting and also people evacuating when told to. Things would be so much worse if people refused to leave their homes. The police have been very clear that they do not want gawkers and sight-seers around so they will not be diverted from rescuing people. We have 4 neighborhoods that are totally under water including our historic Czech Village, there for about 150 years.Special things there that are definitely destroyed. It is such a heartbreak. There were two railroad bridges in danger and one has definitely collapsed. Downriver a 100 year old historic bridge collapsed. The pressure of the water is horrible. Susan in Cedar Rapids

  • Thank you for your ...

Thank you for your kind words. It has been horrible. All of the downtown bridges are closed so the only way to get across the river is by I-380 which sometimes has been so slow as to take hours to get just a few miles. We are so blessed though with no deaths from it. I still remember the horrific events of Katrina with bodies floating everywhere. The water is receeding rapidly. Things can be replaced but people cannot. Thank you. Susan in Cedar Rapids, Iowa

  • Cap, let's keep the ...

Cap, let's keep the focus on those affected RIGHT NOW in Iowa. This shouldn't be a running commentary on how a few twits may or may not have affected YOUR community. Over 24,000 people have been adversely affected by this tragedy and they need uplifting words of encouragement, heartfelt prayers and our donations to help them during what's sure to be a long recovery period. Negativity is irrelevant and accomplishes nothing.

IOWA: YOU ARE IN OUR THOUGHTS, HEARTS AND PRAYERS!!! I'm over in Illinois and the devastation is so heartwrenching to see. I'm so grateful to God that more lives haven't been lost, as I know it could be much, much worse. You're not alone--so many of us are praying for you! WE LOVE YOU ALL--DON'T LOSE YOUR FAITH! GOD BE WITH YOU DAILY!!

God bless all those going through this catastrophe. Good example of how to conduct (and obey) evacuation orders. And how refreshing it is not to have to bear witness to looters and shooters for whom the rest of the country is expected to cough up money to rescue. I live in Houston and the Katrina thugs, 50,000 of them, who relocated here are making my city a ****-****! Iowans be proud! I have heard no complaints from Omaha

My uncle moved there to retire from Waterloo. I`m sure he`s ok because he`s a SOB. I just hate to see this. We dealt with this in Indiana last weekend. My house is screwed. I can fix it but I dread most in Cedar just won`t be able to. My heart is broken for everyone who had to deal with this from two weeks ago to now. Tornadoes are one thing. Insurance has your back. Floods are a royal fucking!

Trucks and Tractors? What the heck do they have to do with it? I live in Cedar Rapids and I have seen my community hit hard. What you have said is very offensive, though I bet you are right about Al Gore. Lol.

Wow, beautiful pictures! Well done taking them. This whole flood has caused a lot of panick but it also has brought communities together. I put together a movie as well, though I couldn't get in town pictures because I am out in Lisbon hoping to wait it out.

yep, all those trucks and tractors caused this flood. The way AlGore figures, Cedar Rapids will soon be nothing more than a lake caused by global warming.
