for revival of smaller fishes, holding the fish by the tail will be sufficient. and then move the fish forward and backward to push water through the mouth to help the fish breathe again. but in this case, the fish is huge, and hence this hugging method is adopted. i see the hole now. looks like the lip grip caused it when the fish struggled. i hope (and i don't think) that it will be too much for the fish to take... thks for the info

minimal amount of slime will be removed in the process since this guy is all wet. he has to support the fish and revive it. how else do you suggest he revive it?

lip grip, a clamp that perforates the lip, check the hole. Painless?
