Cool animation. Remotely possible.. at least parts of it. But certainly not via air power. At least not that alone. You'd need a fairly complex electrical system. In addition, there's the problem of keeping the ball bearings from hitting each other.

i think it all would require precise measurement.. weight of the balls and the different surfaces they bounce off of, even the tightness of the different drumssss

Excellent animation. NOTHING to do with chaos though, it's a series of pre-programmed, predictable events. I wonder if anyone's ever built a real thing like this?

I'm still fairly certain it demonstates chaos theory quite well, but since you appear to know more about this than I do, I concede.

This just means it's complex, not chaotic. Chaos theory is all about nonlinear dynamics, which is precisely what this system is not.

Heh, sorry for not being more clear. As each ball hits the cymbal, it sets it in motion, so the next ball to hit it will be bouncing off at a different angle, thus meaning that the firing tube has to think about this and compensate for it, moving left or right so that it bounces into the catching tube. With every slight change in the ball's contact with the cymbal it will move in a slightly different way, thus leading to a whole different movement of the cymbal. Hope this explains it :S
