Martian Methane Reveals the Red Planet is not a Dead Planet
The team found methane in the atmosphere of Mars by carefully observing the planet over several Mars years (and all Martian seasons) with NASA's Infrared Telescope Facility, run by the University of Hawaii, and the W. M. Keck telescope, both at Mauna Kea, Hawaii.

First is the fact that these methane releases are seasonal. Spring and Summer seasons. With a volcanic release that is sub-surface, the season would not be much of a factor. Even in the extreme cold, at least minimal traces would be detected. Second, if the Volcanic model was fact, then the combination of H20, CO2, and high temps, then SO2 should be detected as well, and hasn't yet.

Our rovers and landers are great instruments, but can not compare to the detail of human analysis. Instead of working to go back to the moon, we should go straight to Mars. We need to drill into the surface and bring up samples from deep within the planet where it is warm and the liquid H2O is. This methane is a great discovery and a great way to start off the new year.

My thought is that we might be looking at a planet that might either be similar to the early stages of Earth OR the future state that Earth might be in, I mean we are actually losing the ozone layer and might end up exactly as Mars.
