  • Also it does matter what version type it

I also wanted to point out that it does "technically" make a difference whether U use a "Full Retail" version or an "Upgrade" version of Vista.
B/c "technically" if you use an Upgrade you are not supposed to do a clean install but rather R supposed to upgrade over XP replacing it (to me that's Bull$'. BUT there are LOTS & LOTS of sites that explain how to do (as i also did) - with XP installed use a Vista Upgrade DVD to do a clean installation of Vista on another driver or partition etcetera... It simply requires installing it twice, over itself as an upgrade the second time. (not activating it until after you have it up & running the second time).

Just wanted to point out those 2 things...

  • Hey Great series of videos, 1 correction

Hi, u mentioned that it will not work if u try to install Vista from the BIOS (that it will mess up the bootloader). This is not correct. I just yesterday took a system with XP running, from the BIOS booted to CD and installed Vista in a dual boot set up. Vista recognizes XP and adds it to the bootloader that it takes over. Doing it that way (the same way as u did) is easier because if you install Vista 1st then XP you have to repair the bootloader. NOT A big deal but wanted to make that clearer.

  • If you install ...

If you install Ubuntu, it should automatically configure the grub for you. It will recognize that Windows has already been installed and will add it to the grub automatically. Now, if you install Windows AFTER Ubuntu, you'll need to manually edit the grub yourself. I'm a little unfamiliar with how to do this.

I haven't tried it for 64bit, but they should be. You'd just have to download the 64-bit version of Ubuntu.

  • That's actually a ...

That's actually a very good question. I'm sure you can. It's just a matter of partitioning your harddrive. Ubuntu has a very good partition editor that lets you do it without reformatting. You may have to edit your GRUB to boot to Windows later though. I'm not an expert on that so you should look on the ubuntu forums for help on editing your GRUB.

Right. I just rounded it so I wouldn't get like a million questions as to why I chose 20480 instead of an even 20000 :P

  • Right, I know that. ...

Right, I know that. In my video, I said I was making a 20GB partition...not a 2GB partition. So as not to confuse people, I just rounded to 20,000MB, instead of 20,480MB (20GB = 20,480MB). From an installation and OS perspective, it really doesn't matter.

  • Hi, Yes you can. ...

Hi, Yes you can. You can install Linux if Vista has already been on there for a while. You don't have to reinstall Vista or anything. My tutorial is still all relevant. In your case, you can just skip ahead to the part where we install Ubuntu. Just make sure you have enough drive space for Linux.
