United Nations, New York, 7 May 2009 - In Observance of World Press Freedom Day (3 May) the Department of Public Information of the United Nations organized on 7 May a panel discussion on the theme "Media, Dialogue, Mutual Understanding, and Reconciliation: A Look at the Arab World".

Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon participated in the meeting and said that free, independent media is an essential agent of human rights, development and peace.
