The ideas of rationalist philosophers Baruch Spinoza and Gottfried Leibniz are examined in this program by philosophy Anthony Quinton. Spinoza favors a pantheistic God who has matter and mind as two attributes, and who is the ultimate substance and explanation of the world. Leibniz sees the real world as consisting of an infinity of things purely spiritual, where everything, including space, is a phenomenon—a by-product of areal world with an infinite array of spiritual centers. Both philosophers construct a world that is very different form what the average person perceives, and both reject Cartesian duality.

  • there is one thing. ...

    there is one thing. everything.
it is a great projection of energy that is trans-dimentional
    it projects memes thru matter,
    it conserves diversity,
it creates intricacies beyond imagining and holds stars beyond measure.
Its birth and death are myth and mystery
Its plan is its path and its path led to here with all that is.
It acts according to its nature.
    It is beyond our minds,
    IT IS ALIVE ---- R U N ! ! !

  • Information is not ...

Information is not the same thing as energy.
Information of the quality of energy in a system.
To understand this it might help to think of the information becoming smaller and smaller in scale, so that measuring it and picking out detail or differences becomes less and less possible over time as things happen, the energy becomes distributed more and more evenly so that there is less difference between parts,
this general tendency is called entropy.
info doesn't go, it just gets boring.

  • "all matter is ...

"all matter is merely energy condensed to a slow vibration, that we are all one consciousness experiencing itself subjectively, there is no such thing as death, life is only a dream, and we are the imagination of ourselves" Bill Hicks
    Peace.

  • 7:24 he hit the ...

7:24 he hit the nail on the head. Everything is one total nothing lies outside of it. Reality is merely a reflection of itself. Just one entity viewing itself "the Sacred Mirrors" i think all the great spiritual teachers have had a realisation of this. Unfortunately it has then been missinterpreted and turned into religion and had the name god thrown at it which carries too many connotations with it. The teaching is simple and profound.

  • The correlations ...

The correlations between information and energy are intruiging. In some sense energy IS information. In this sense, then we as conscious creators can create information/energy. Not only is consciousness puzzling, but also energy and also information. Even 'what is meaning?' leads ultimately to the same zone of enquiry. I like to believe that everything is one thing. This give me a basket containing, energy/information/awareness-consciousness and I can sense these being deeply related.

  • I think we should ...

I think we should remember that real mystery exists. This is no joke and I think most people fob it off because it is an inscutable thing that defies meaning. WHY DOES A THING EXIST? or how? Now energy is not a static thing, it is a process -a dynamic reactive process and I wonder if this innate property is not actually the principle of awareness itself? The nature of energy is that it exists and is dynamic. As we cannot create or destroy energy, I think the mundane is actually deep mystery.

  • this might be ...

this might be circular reasoning on my part but I take most things with the mind from a neurophilosophical viewpoint . . . i'm a brain/biological based materialist and to me a 'thought' is a just a product or process by a living/working brain (nothing more than neurons and synapses doing their job)

  • Then where does ...

Then where does thought lie? A dead body may have similar components of a living body, but there are no thoughts. There is more than physical and biological if we can not explain consciousness.

  • Yeah .. semantic ...

Yeah .. semantic definitions can get tricky.

This might clear help clear things:
Another way of saying my viewpoint is that as some people say there's nothing beyond God, I say there's nothing beyond nature and what there is in the biological and physical world. The biggest thing I believe in is nature but it's just a sphere that encompasses and has no power or will over it's elements. There is no plan, reason or meaning to 'why' thing the way they are, "the universe is what it is". You agree?
