" he made a very silly statement that he was gonna be bigger than elvis"

That was very unfortunate. He also said the songs he wrote were much better than Lennon and McCartney's songs. That didn't help him either. Nevertheless. I love his version of this song, and listen to it a lot.

  • Read this, sukie, ...

Read this, sukie, from Wikipedia. Then stop saying dumb things.

"In 1966, St. Peters' career finally yielded a Top 10 hit in the UK Singles Chart, with "You Were On My Mind", a song first recorded in 1964 by Canadian folk duo Ian & Sylvia, and a hit in America for We Five in 1965."

Posting uninformed diatribes is, "No way to go through life, son". Dean Wormser, "Animal House". Faber College motto, "Knowledge is Good".

  • Just to be fair, I ...

Just to be fair, I looked at this performance again. Recognizing that what is "good" and what is "less good" is a subjective thing (ie arguably no right or wrong) this sleep-walking performance of a very fine, almost inspirational tune is-----not to my liking, anyway. What was that other stupid song this somnabulist hit the charts with in the US? That was awful too, in my opinion. If his being an Aussie is an issue, let me say that The Seekers were awesome.

Judith, et al, were all time!

"we five copied crispian actually we 5 wasnt even born when this was done." Oh, really? When were you born?

I could say a lot of nasty things, but I guess I'll just leave it with----you are very wrong, in every way.

  • Quite likely what ...

Quite likely what is happening here is that he doesn't know WHICH camera is the one that is focusing on him as the primary camera, therefore he is focusing on the wrong camera. That was pretty common back in the days of early television before camera crews began to use effective visual cues for the performers. I remember Paul McCartney discussing this in an old interview. Crispian's expression here is pretty cute, I've always loved this very talented guy.

  • My take on this is ...

My take on this is that this guy was a very minor talent. He has copied---almost note for note (including the key change)---the We Five "rocky" version, which of course was the "hit" that most people know.
The harmonies are nice, but the bass and drum heavy beat---or one or the other--is out of place.
The original, by Ian Tyson (Ian&Sylvia) is on uTube. Very folky. This guy should have gone one way or the other. He tried to have it both ways---and lost, miserably, in my opinion.
