Mohonk Mountain House Naturalist Michael Ridolfo and his crew build a Primitive Camp (or Native Camp, Wilderness Camp, Wilderness Shelter ) in the back country of Mohonk.

Phase 1, accomplished in the summer of 2008, is the "construction" of the framework log uprights and cross-members.

Phase 2, done in October 2008, consists of laying wood "ribs" covered with brush across the framework to act as a roof for the shelter.

The wilderness shelter will be used to introduce Mohonk guests to wilderness awareness and survival skills.

All building materials are chestnut, oak, red oak, jute cordage and other biodegradable materials so that after several years of use the building will decompose with no lasting impact on the environment.
