Be Bop Deluxe Blazing Live Jam 1977

Liked them very much in the 80s. I think the guitarist who most closely resembles Bill in terms of style and tone is Michael Schenker in the UFO-era (70s). Check out the album Strangers In The Night by UFO.

Bill's playing gets me wondering. He's got two hands eight fingers and of course two thumbs as well. The guitars fretboard is the same and so are the strings. Why is it he sounds so unique? His runs are different than anyone else's. He really gets flying and it flows so nice.

Bill add details in his playing, I have never heard a other guitar player do that. Hendriks is also fantastic but Nelson playing more clever. Buy Whimsy is so cool.........

when live in the air age first came out,the music critics were not kind to bill nelson especially his songwriting but these guys can play.I remember when modern music came out, I was a fan for life.thanks for the post.

Adeventures in a Yorkshire Landscape still makes me wet my kegs, but comparing Jimmy Page and Bill Nelson is like comparing Hendrix and Clapton: it's not the same gig, man.

If you like Bill Nelson's playing, you might like to do a Youtube search for Jan Ackermann when he was playing in Focus (70's). He's rather good too.

the only album i ever had by them was "axe victim"and they sounded so much like bowie that i fell in love with it.

Bill Nelson's solo on "Adventures..." is what made me play guitar. The most under rated guitar God. I laugh when people think PAge is the best!

Charlie Tumahi died of a heart attack a few years ago in his birth place New Zealand.
I asked him what his favourite Be bop song was and he replied without hesitation
"Blazing Apostles"

Yorkshire Landscape. What a quality guitar solo from the "master" As a 17 year old it brought the word "Chill" into my vocabulary. Rock on Bill.

Bill has surpased Mr. Hendrix in so many ways. Mr. Nelson continued to experiment with musical culture & creativity. Fans from the early days of Be Bop were critical of his diversity and changes in the 80's. I had remained a true fan, and as a drummer in my late forties I respect and value this band as it shaped my musical future back then and to this very day !

I prefer Bill to Hendrix any day!

Bill Nelson needs more recognition for his talent. This was a great band! I wore out Live in the Air Age (on white vinyl) in the seventies. Thanks for this treasure.

check out Bill's solo album "practically wired"...I put it right up there with some of the best instrumental guitar albums of all time

Nice to see them all getting a little time to shine. Alot more going on here than the session on tramway and both outro's to the two live cds. And what an ending.

Thanks very much for posting this. I didn't know that any footage of this band in a full theatre setting existed! I guess this was from a televised performance rather than a commercially available video as it's from a few years before the VHS era. It's amazing how many of these odl gems have survived and are noew being mande public again via this medium. A pity it's cut before the full credits as I'd love to track it down!

Wow what a treat to see and hear Bill Nelson play. He's a great guitarist and really lights it up playing live. They're "live in the air age" album had some smoking stuff on it. "Adventures in a yorkshire landscape" was one of them and the other was "shine" Thanks.
