The current situations with cougars (mountain lions etc...) are interesting. You could be a Florida Panther, which are protected and slowly heading towards extinction (as many are hit by vehicles each year due to a huge population growth in Florida), or you could be a western puma and legally hunted in states like Oregon for a $10.00 fee.
The cougars we mostly hear about are those that are people's former pets. We get calls all the time where people went out and bought a cute fluffy cougar cub only to realize that like all animals, they grew up.
Our "cubs" were sent here around 2 years ago after their mother was shot in the wilderness. A lot of you have been asking how they are doing, and this video taken at feeding time on whole prey night, will give you the chance to see that they have grown up.
Thank you for watching.

cats learn hunting and survival skils from their mothers. If they released these animals into the wild they would not survive.

you say these cats need many Square kilometers to roam and that they deserve to be free, so why do you keep 3 of them caged up instead of reinserting them into the wild

these animals are well fed. I think this shows how these animals are NOT tame, even with close human contact. Look how nutz they got about their food. Imagine that in your house!!!!!

  • The main reason we ...

The main reason we can see is pure human ego. I have something wild that no one else has.
And also you can easily get one as a pet in some states for little money. We think to really love the species is to leave it alone and protect its natural habitat.
We sometimes release native born bobcats if they were rehabbed.

  • Many people try to ...

Many people try to pay for their animals by using them and bringing them to what they call educational evets. This could mean a birthday party, store opening. It usually ends with the cat being stressed out, and no one really learning anything. They are working on better laws to prevent this.

  • Hi, great vid. You ...

Hi, great vid. You mention that people keep cougars as pets,i realise that people such as yourself are discouraging people from doing so, but why do people want to in the first place? surely they know that their numbers are declining in the wild and they are/deserve to be wild animals. are the animals you keep in your rescue shelter ever relsased into the wild?
