Just wanted to say I posted a similar reply much later, then scrolled way down and saw you saying the same things.
It's good to know that I'm not crazy. This guy "teaches" you to leave your side wide exposed to follow-up punch or other attack.
I never said this technique cannot work. I pointed out the problems with his execution.
There's another guy here, "nwaikikai" who said the same things that I did -"This defense won't work. It doesn't account for the second hand of the attacker, which I would use to belt you in the jaw if you tried to "bleed off" my punch this way."
This is not a coincidence that we said the same things. It is axiomic martial effectiveness - if the other arm can punch you, you failed... unless you are lucky.
I've used fancy under the arm tricks before. These type of techniques go much faster when applied in real life. It sounds like your the type of person that plans a fight out, that dont work my friend

By ZayXanProductions [Affiliate User] 1215289864 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveKnow very little about Aikido, but i personally do not like this particular technique.
By JKD76 [Affiliate User] 1215242600 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveAlso, this guy leaves his side wide exposed for a follow-up punch. That's not how you meet the hook punch energy. You always deal with the attacker as an entire person, never narrowing focus on just his hand/wrist/arm etc.
The "little shock" he talks about should be his own body weight, channeled through his extended left arm, smashing his fist into the guy's chin. When his teeth are flying out, THAT'S when you bought yourself time to follow with a fancy rotation under his arm.
The problem with these clips is that they show stylized Aikido principles and present them as usable real-life technique.
Aikido can work well with fast punches, but you never grab anything, nor do you have time for body rotations. Blending with punches is a pipe dream.
The punches (more like blurs) need to be tracked starting from opponent's shoulders, slapping them away from your centerline while closing distance for a throw, and not missing opportunity to sink your weight into his elbows.
Sankyo is not useless, on the contrary...The problem of Sankyo is how you get to it and that is the hardest part. Sometimes is easy to give yourself up easily if you don't do it well. That's why I don't like the way Sankyo is prepared in this video, it leavs too open to counter attacks.
By charyuop [Affiliate User] 1215090565 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveThe trick is to get a good sankyo any turn or attempted punch would cause pain in execution and the sankyo is actually more effective against a more aggresive person.

By edraaaamage [Affiliate User] 1215084658 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveI've used this move in a fight, and if practiced well enough it is easy to do... the entire move takes just a few seconds
By lowrie08 [Affiliate User] 1215060993 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removethis is useless. it would be too difficult to pull off in a real fight, unless you're fighting someone who's either really drunk or completely retarded. this maneuver couldn't stop a quick, hard punch to the face.

By BlueKingChoper [Affiliate User] 1214917274 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveI personally think that Sankyo and Nikkyo are the perfect ways to control someone. However I am not too confident on the way it is presented in this video. Uke is left too much in control of his own center and Nage open himself in front of Uke.

By AznChuckNorris [Affiliate User] 1214287718 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemovePersonally, I would be very worried about the knife in my attacker's other (right) hand now being stuck in my back.
By pdraper919191 [Affiliate User] 1214280727 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveHow to do 3-kyo w/o grabing ?
By cjw01 [Affiliate User] 1214275836 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveUntil one of you guys get a Black Belt in something, open a dojo, become a master,or at least have been a martial artist for a few years, shut up.
By onebigkiss [Affiliate User] 1214264521 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveYou'd never see the technique
By zapyote [Affiliate User] 1214260874 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveHe doesn't have to grab your wrist, its the direction of his attack that you're countering. You're LEARNING to lead him.
By zapyote [Affiliate User] 1214260816 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removegood but what if the person attaking has a fast requal
By remsone302010 [Affiliate User] 1214255866 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveUsually a good martial artist won't let you grab his wrist, howevere 1-kyo,2-kyo and even 3-kyo all depends on a good grab, that is the weakness of Aikido.
By cjw01 [Affiliate User] 1214255141 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveI would of liked it more if he did it real time
