go to the website I have posted to the right of the video under "more info". When you go to the site up near the top there is a button you can click on for seminars. There are a bunch of schools in Canada if you don't want to wait for a seminar.

  • Hey I got all that. ...

Hey I got all that..20 years in martial arts here. Instead of hammer how bout club. Hammer is just an easy example to understand. I could argue with you ad nauseum about how the fulcrum of the handle is similar...but the real "secret" is about the relaxed way the punch is thrown. The bicep being tense tends to lessen the impact of the punch. I tried it on a guy when I was skeptical and it relaly freaked me out and got me hooked. All I can say is try it.

I used to be skeptical too so I understand...if you look up "Understanding Ballistic Striking and Systema Style Striking" here on you tube that might explain the punching aspect a little better too

  • Look, don't get me ...

Look, don't get me wrong, some of the movement drills look good. And I've seen some the groundwork stuff and it could almost be a scientific wrestling class. Half of the ground stuff is just like what I do. And the standing evasions are interesting. Like maybe some Russian Tai Chi. But I think I'd have to feel the punches to even begin to buy that stuff. Trust me, if there should be a systema seminar within a couple of hours of East Tn, I'll go just to try it. But I'm skeptical.

  • 1st of all, a fist ...

1st of all, a fist isn't as hard as a hammer. Think tennis ball instead of a hammer. 2nd, a boxing punch, for example, uses rotation from the hips. this involves more muscles in force generation, more body mass applied to the target, and more speed on impact. Again, at best this punch would be equivalent to a boxers jab. I can point you to several sites on the physics of punching if you would like. 3rd a hammer is on a handle providing an additional fulcrum for leverage. Not a comparison.

  • physics is why it ...

physics is why it works...if his arm weighs 15lbs how fast would it need to travel to generate that kind of force? If you hit someone with a 15 lb hammer how fast do you have to swing it to hurt them?

  • I'm sorry but the ...

I'm sorry but the physics is the ultimate arbiter here. Mass times speed. I don't see how even the fat guy could generate significant force with these "arm only" punches. We're talking necessarily boxing jab kind of power. Does someone have a different equation I don't know about?

  • Pretty interesting ...

Pretty interesting stuff, using someones balance against them is surprisingly potent, and the systema punch really does hit like a lead weight.

36 seconds..not sure which person you mean

42 seconds..he's hitting him in the kidneys..when the guy being struck reacts to the strike by extending his pelvis forward, the big guy pulls him off balance by pulling on his head

  • 36 secs - People ...

36 secs - People don't just fall back like that, at least I've never seen someone do it.

42 secs - OK that guy there, seen him in many other Systema vids ... honestly does he think that he has mystical powers and that by touching people or tapping people they fall over like that? Sorry I won't believe that until I see it in 'alive' training against other practicioners or if I experience it.

Sorry out of comment space but in the first minute alone that's some of my biggest gripes.

That's fair enough man. Just some of the 'escapes' where they strike arms, etc and suddenly the attacker lets go, I just don't feel it works in a 'real' sense. But as you said, I'll agree to disagree man.

This is true. I've read / seen many of Bas' stuff, not so Much Gracies. I'm aware of the difference between Sport based and Street based fighting. But honestly I just don't see a lot of practical things there that would say would work in either street or sport fighting.
