By hmoobkhab [Affiliate User] 1201127054 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removei like your videos on the serve. most of it is stuff i already understand, pronation, a reliable toss, but this all helps in developing good feel for the different types of spin and how to control them
By musicgamer10 [Affiliate User] 1198522582 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removeoh if you put it that way :P
By erosennin4203 [Affiliate User] 1195853522 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveThe purpose of these drills is to improve your feel for the spin and not to actually serve like that in a match.
By TennisMindGame [Affiliate User] 1195850697 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveIf you hit it too high though, wouldn't
the opponent move in and take it on the rise?
that's what i'd usually do if they have a
slow topspin serve
continental grip
By zcarenow [Affiliate User] 1195549687 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveUhmm this is very interesting to me, because hitting an "effective ball" (to me at least) I've found that when I'm REALLY effective is mostly when I'm able to apply the best technique I can at that particular moment. HOWEVER! I have to admit that I've lost to players that are WAY less technical than me!! but seem to manage to keep me from playing in my comfort zone.. Interesting subject indeed. Please develop it further...Thx.
By INTUBITION [Affiliate User] 1195453329 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveYes, that's another option to use. But... ;)
With a "normal" stance and "normal" toss you'll never be able to kick the ball out wide that much, which gives a typical club player huge problems.
And club players are really not that skilled to master different serves from the same toss and stance.
That only makes tennis more difficult for them.
Of course, if you were an ATP / WTA player, we would want you to disguise your serves too.
isn't the key to disguising your serve to not give your opponent an idea of what type of serve(flat, kick, etc) you will be doing by having pretty much the same stance when u serve and also in the same area when u serve.
By zcarenow [Affiliate User] 1195348569 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveOreoclan i understand perfectly what you're saying but tell me, would you rather have bad technique and get that extra ball in or would you rather work on your technique and be able to maximize your potential and be the best player you can possibly be. That's why i commented tennismindgame because he is saying that technique is not important and it is probably one of the most or the most important part of the game.
By coriaelmago101 [Affiliate User] 1194723904 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removekohria dude every ball has spin on it are you telling me that when you hit a flat ball the ball does not rotate at all. Every ball that has rotation has spin when you hit a flat ball although you may not be able to tell since your an idiot it rotates but nowhere near amount the rotation that a ball with spin is hit a flat ball comes with spin just not as much as ball with heavy topspin. So stop acting like you know what you are talking about because you don't know S**t about tennis
By coriaelmago101 [Affiliate User] 1194723755 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveYou can have the best "technique" and still loose the game, thats why, in a sense it doesn't matter.
We know what he means so leave it there.
Good technique counts in tennis, but only to a certain point. Good technique makes you improve faster and farther, but in a match, all that matters is getting the ball in 1 more time than the opponent.
Poor technique limits what you can achieve skill-wise, but in competition, all that matters is getting that extra ball in. You can do that with or without good technique, and a lot of people only care about competition, not about achieving their best tennis.
Ok, you won't win a point because of your follow through but if you don't know how to hit an effective topspin serve with the proper technique or learn how to hit different types and varieties of shots those with the proper techniques, your opponents that have the right technique will surpass you and hit the ball with more pace, cleaner, better due to the fact that they have the right technique
By coriaelmago101 [Affiliate User] 1193256085 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removetheir technique that allows them to hit the ball so flat, with so much topspin. It's obvious you don't know what you are saying when you say "technique doesn't matter".
read more books before you go ranting on experienced coaches.
and coriaelmago, you DO know that a flatball is a ball without spin? So how does a flat ball have spin? Shows how much you know about tennis.
By Kohria [Affiliate User] 1192713563 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveOh I wanted to ask do you have to have a specific type of grip to get a good topspin on the serve?
By david0sama917 [Affiliate User] 1191967142 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveHmm, maybe I wasn't clear enough and it looks like you were not taught good manires. ;)
Anyway, what I meant was that technique doesn't count in tennis. You don't get 15:0 because you had a good follow-through.
The only thing that counts in tennis is whether you hit an effective ball.
And instead of thinking only about technique you can focus on hitting an effective ball and the technique will develop by itself.
90% percent of good technique is repetition and 10% is instruction.
Your a fool, "technique doesn't matter" if you have bad technique you will only reach a certain level and stop. One of the main reasons the best players like Federer and Nadal and all the other pros are so good is because of their technique that allows them to hit the ball so flat, with so much topspin. It's obvious you don't know what you are saying when you say "technique doesn't matter".
By coriaelmago101 [Affiliate User] 1191959667 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removei wish i had these tips when i was first learning, still i can use them to improve my topspin serve. Thanks
By Ntour [Affiliate User] 1191387455 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveThanks TennisMindGame, now i have a more reliable serve. My flats only went 50-50 in, my slices kept on dipping into the net, and this is more effective. Although, I still need to work on getting power into the serve. Thanks.
