  • Ash, Let me know ...

Ash, Let me know what is going on down there. What are you catching, what bait are you using? I have also taught my son to throw a net, he has been doing it for 3 years now, and he is 10. I'm getting old and cranky, so I need him to take over some of the hard work!

Ash, Cool, I think I got it. That sounds like it might work better for a bigger net, since more of the lead is over your elbow.
I'll give it a try. Thanks,
    Mike

  • That sounds similar ...

That sounds similar to my way, but you are putting more lead over your elbow right? I'm not sure I totally understand, can you make a video, or maybe a step by step? This way works pretty easily, but it is hard to use with nets 12 foot and up. With bigger nets I prefer the Cuban style. Thanks for your comment. Mike

hey mate, i like ur technique of casting and its about time that someone actually knows how to throw a net on utube:)
i live in far north queensland and of corse you just have to know how to cast.
i again have a different technique.
i grab it a half way then i seperate the lead sinckers at half way. i put half over my elbow and grab the inside line. i like the way that u presented this technique
please write back to me saying wat u think about mine
    thanks.

  • This removed 1/3rd ...

This removed 1/3rd of the weight, and it still opens great, without killing me. Just get the pruners as close to the lead line as possible without cutting it, then spread the lead weight apart. Just make sure your net has lead weights, some West coast nets have plastic-coated steel. And DON"T CUT YOURSELF! Also Big PVC pipe Ratchet cutters work too.

    Hope this helps,
    Mike

  • At a pound and a ...

At a pound and a half per foot,(a good net), A 10 footer is about the max. At one pound per foot,(a cheap net) A 14 footer is about max. If you are throwing a good 12 footer, this method will hurt you. When I use a 12 footer, I always use the Cuban style. 10 and below, I use the Old school Style. 1 cool trick: I have a 12 foot West Coast Ballyhoo net, it has super high quality netting and rigging, but HEAVY as HELL! It's heavier than I need, so I used big pruners to cut off every 3rd weight!
