A hard landing at JFK International Airport after a great trip to Paris, France in August of 1999. Flying home in a 747, Tower Air Airlines, from Charles DeGaul International Airport to JFK International Airport in New York, USA. August 29, 1999.

    Wotan, you are absolutely right. Pilots do anticipate an immediate transition between airborne and on the ground. "ballooning" is then not an issue, as it is with soft landings...
    Though as single recip pilot, I loved my smoothest landing in KVRB... No one on board felt the touchdown including me on the controls...

    Actually, I flew with Tower Air in 1993 from EDDB via EDDC to KMIA. The live vests read "Pan Am" on them. After a short investigation on my behalf, I found out that the all-747 fleet was ex-Pan Am! (Lockerby, 1988 end of an era) Same with Delta's A310s. They are / were ex PanAm also.
