Apocalypto Sacrifice Scene

Creo que Gibson debió haber estudiado un poco más la gran cultura Maya antes de atreverse a realizar una película como ésta. Los MAYAS eran mucho más que "sacrificios", eran científicos y estudiosos, cultos y organizados políticamente, por que todos piensan que los latinos son Mexicanos, la cultura Maya tuvo su gran auge en Guatemala.

yeah I know its the same god, I just have a hard time spelling the other names. But in the movie he had the heart out and mention Kukulkan, but I just wanted to point out that Kukulkan or Quetzacoatl didn't approve of human scarifices.

I meant as a near-same concept for a deity in two separate people (three if you take into consideration that the Maya are separated in different groups.) Gukumatz is K'iche tradition. Yeah, I misspelled it the first time.

Kukulkan (Gukun Matz) is the equivalent of Quetzalcoatl, that is a serpent deity. And since Quetzal didn't approve of sacrifices...

both aztec and maya practiced similar rituals..

correct if Im wrong but wasn't the god Kulkulkan against human sacrifice?

Offhand: not a bad comment, DGy. However, regarding Hollywood's demonize-all-things-American bias, it would be nice, once in a while, to read something like: "this is so dumb i swear why not put scenes of the great things AMERICANS did — and do — through history"?!

good point, the aztecs did expand their empire and they probably had alot cultural influences on the maya at this point.

The human sacrifice scene has more Aztec than Mayan influence. If you want, I'll demonstrate a removal of your heart.

Meh, I think that is Mel Gibson's Christian influence. He transformed this into a story about social decay and combined that with the human sacrifice performed by the Aztecs.
