  • To katinkaballerina ...

To katinkaballerina: I really wonder if you are trying to discourage Daniil Simkin, who was also trained by Russian pedagogy. I do not see the flaws you see. Instead, I see great range, more so than many others. Why post so many negative messages about him? Anybody who looks can see that he has style, emotion, and technique. Bravo Daniil, I hope to see you one day.

  • oh i said several ...

oh i said several positive things. like he has good turns. you seem to be really caught up on technique and If you haven't learned: that's not what dance is about. Russian ballet(Kirov and Bolshoi) is considered by the majority of the world that best. postitive sound not be confused with delusional

  • i train Vaganova ...

i train Vaganova style thanks actually. I've actually been to Russian and seen the Kirov Ballet perform and they were F**king amazing they could kick this guy's butt. at EVERYTHING including turning. Ever heard of svetlana zakharova or Denis Matvienko well both are from russian training pretty recent and both are pretty good turners. Russian dancer work THEIR asses off!!!!! they train from when they are really young all day. (watch the vaganova video on youtube)

  • I've noticed a ...

I've noticed a marked lack of turns in Russian dancers lately... and my Russian pedagogy teacher years ago said that turns marked the Russian dancers, who would do eight when western dancers would do only four or less. Now it's reversed; the Russians barely move and expect people to be impressed. You ought to go back to first year Vaganova method and study the turns the way they are supposed to be studied, or at least don't make Russian dancers seem so lazy.

  • yeah but can all he ...

yeah but can all he do is turn? the choreographer has him turning in awkward places to show off and it breaks up the movement. He comes across as a show off which isn't all his fault. If he were to has less turns it would be AMAZING to the audience every time he did one(like a treat) otherwise it's going to get old quickly. i missed the passion as well. technique is all good and well but it needs artistry to go with it.

  • don quxiote's style ...

don quxiote's style is all about the passion!!!!!!!!!!! not the refined technique!!!!! it's a wild and free spirited ballet full of spanish flavor. baryshinikov and osipova understand that. watch maya plisetskaya do kitri's first act variation and then you'll understand.
