This is the Hydro Electric Power Plant I designed and Installed at my property in the Rainforests of The Daintree.
There is no Grid Power in this area,so you have to make your own!
Solar Power isn't the best option due to the amount of overcast, rainy days we get here, especially during the Monsoon [Wet] Season....We can get up to 5 meters of rain a year, and since there's a couple of creeks that flow through the Property....what better way to create power.
Details : 540 meters of 120mm [5 inch] Pipe.
50 meters Head.
Francis Turbine driving a 8Kw Brushless Alternator.
Output : Up to 5 Kw [ 20 Amps ] 240 Volt AC.
Water Flow : Up to 20 litre / Second.
Regulated by an Electronic Governor and Water Flow.

Man, this is a beautiful set-up, in a beautiful place.
Looked like you were generating around 1.75 kW there, which is awesome.
Also, tree huggers would not have an issue with this. "Tree huggers" have an issue with damned hydopower, which is a fucked up way of getting power, though a fine way of storing energy if it's not being used. Tree huggers would like this even more because its decentralised from the main system, thereby causing self-reliance. That is good.
Power to the people.
Great work M8! I'm thinking about moving next to you, use up the excess power you have LOL.
Nice looking area, here in the U.S the tree huggers would have us in court in no time! Saying we're killing the fish and disturbing the area. It's a no win problem here!
No, I'm not connected to the Grid, and it's not possible to connect....too many long and complex reasons to go into here.
If the Grid was here, I'd connect up straight away and send my excess back...."They",the energy providers,(with Government encouragement) will pay 44 cents a Kw hour for electricity generated like.
When the Turbine is working to full capacity, plus the output from my Solar System, I can produce over 7Kw per Hour.
wouldn't that be against the laws of physics

Is the system grid tied?
or how do you use the power and what about the extra?
good engineering!!!

By akmtl [Affiliate User] 1202450294 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveYeah...you can't get much purer!
It's on for 9 or 10 months of the year,I shut it down during the real dry part of the year, and run on a solar system for a couple of months.
It's been in for 7 years, and hasn't missed a beat.....one of the best things I've done around here!
It's a Francis Turbine.....It was purchased.
They are a common turbine used in hydro electricity production. The alternator is belt driven by the turbine, and spins at 1500 Rpm.
That is some crystal clean water, nearly no worries for impurities there huh?
You have quite something there, do you have it on all the time?
I understand the Head, but what type of turbine is being used? Was it purchased, or is it home made, looks almost like a car turbo. What speed do you turn the device at?
