Michael Phelps collected his fifth gold medal of the world championships as the United States set a world record of seven minutes, 3.24 seconds in the men's 4x200-meter freestyle relay final on Friday. Phelps combined with Ryan Lochte, Klete Keller and Peter Vanderkaay to wipe 1.42 off the previous record of 7:04.66 set by Australia at the 2001 world championships in Fukuoka, Japan. Australia finished a distant second in 7:10.05 and Canada grabbed the bronze in 7:10.70. (WCSN, WCSN.com)

  • The US and ...

The US and Australia are great allies with much, much more in common than not (you post-colonial guys actually smile for example). Stop being idiots and grow up. You'd probably both be getting blitzed on holiday together if you weren't busy whining about swimming here on the internet. Either way, you types are in the minority -- the stupid, provincial one. Go travel and see which 'foreigners' you end up having a laugh with most of the time.

  • Holy Lochte! ...

Holy Lochte! Imagine if France was the one who beat the US relay team 0.008 seconds or less! Congrats USA! USA! USA! (for me... my home team really S**ks . guess i've to wait until rowing or diving...)

By the way, Phelps may be in a little jeopardy for the 200m freestyle. His own countryman VanDerkaay was 1st, and Korean Park Taehwan, who've already won Gold in 400m freestyle, was 2nd. Of course, he swam it just before the gold medal-winning relay, but who knows...

  • Good job putting ...

Good job putting words in my mouth... The US is a great place to be, thats why people move here. We have more immigrants (legal) in our country than your whole nation. Hence, our population is high because people want to be here, not down under

So you're saying how "good" a place is has to do with the population. I guess by your definition China and India are much better than the u.s. Pristine logic man. Pristine.

first off, if that was true then China would have WAY more golds than us. If Australia was a good enough place to be then the population would be higher
