The Dark Knight Rises star Christian Bale travelled to Aurora, Colorado, the site of last week's fatal shooting at a midnight screening of the film that left 12 people dead and 58 wounded. Accompanied by his wife, the Batman star travelled to the city and spent two and a half hours at the Medical Center of Aurora according to the hospital's president. While at the hospital, Bale met with seven victims of the shooting as well as members of the medical staff who were treating the wounded.
Bale and his wife reportedly asked hospital officials not reveal his plans to visit the hospital and arrived in an ambulance in order to avoid reporters. News of his visit didn't stay quiet long when one victim, Carey Rottman tweeted a picture of himself with Bale at the hospital. Representatives of Warner Bros stated that Bale had planned the trip on his own and was not there as a representative of the studio.
In addition to visiting the hospital where several gunshot victims were being treated, Bale and his wife also visited the memorial across from the Century 16 theater where the mass shootings took place to pay respects to the 12 individuals killed. Bale lay flowers at the memorial and spoke with some of the victims' families.
Bale had previously released a statement following the tragedy stating, "I cannot begin to truly understand the pain and grief of the victims and their loved ones, but my heart goes out to them." Warner Bros, the studio behind the film, recently made a "substantial" donation to help the victims of the shootings and some theater chains have also begun setting up donation boxes at theaters across the country. Colorado governor John Hickenlooper announced that donations have reached nearly two million dollars so far through GivingFirst.org, which will be used to help those impacted by the tragedy. Anyone interested in donating can go to givingfirst.org for more information and make a donation. I'm Dana Ward, thanks for watching.
