Russia has unveiled the MiG-35 at an Indian air show Aero India 2007 in Bangalore, amid Moscow's keen interest to sell these planes to India. It was reported that the MIG 35 made it to Bangalore from Moscow, in under three hours, with as many mid air refuellings on the way, flying at supersonic speeds.

The MiG-35 is considered to be a serious contender to the F/A-18E/F Super Hornet, Dassault Rafale and F-16 Falcon for the bid of more than 126 multirole combat aircraft to be procured by the Indian Air Force. Since the IAF already has maintenance and upgrade facilities for the MiG-29, this would mean that the plane could be brought into service with a minimum of expenditure on infrastructure.

Aero India 2007 was the first time that the final version of MiG-35 fighter was displayed. Until the air show in Bangalore only the prototype of the MiG-35 had been shown to the public at air shows in Russia and Britain in 2005. Mikoyan and the Italian company Elettronica in Rome signed a Memorandum of Understanding to provide the MIG-35 with a new multifunction self-protection jammerThe Mikoyan MiG-35 (Russian: Микоян МиГ-35) (NATO reporting name Fulcrum F) is the production version of the latest MiG-29 with a thrust vectoring engine and that uses fly-by-wire technology. The aircraft uses the MiG-29M1 airframe and was formerly known as the MiG-29OVT (MiG-29M2 and MiG-29MRCA refer to the twin-seat development). This latest fighter is more agile and has an increased range of more than 2,100 kilometres. It also features improved avionics, vast improvements in weapons, HOTAS systems, wide range of weapons of air to air and air to ground, as well as a variety of defensive and offensive avionics suite. It is no longer tied to the GCI system and would be able to conduct operations independently. It has eight weapon pylons and is able to refuel as well as carry three external fuel tanks. The aircraft is being marketed under the designation MiG-35 for potential export. Russia is promoting the aircraft to various countries such as Syria, Libya, Iran, Algeria, Sudan, India, Mexico, Brazil, Peru. Malaysia is evaluating the type to add to its existing MiG-29B-12 Fulcrums and to the new Su-30MKM Flankers, due to be delivered in 2006.
The latest MiG-35 is to be equipped with the new Phazotron Zhuk-AE AESA radar. This new radar can detect aerial targets at 130km range head-on. It can track 30 aerial targets and simultaneously engage 6 in attack mode.General characteristics

  • I thought F16 is ...

I thought F16 is direct control fly by wire, not computer integrated. Surely US have done it. What i meant was flying 3D vector is too complicated and need extreme accuracy. MiG35 and Su37 had proven their success with control program. Since US hasn't been to 3D, should i suggest their control program is still behind?

  • That's "specific ...

That's "specific situation" for you, when Mig sticks low or very low to not being tracked in radar. But again supersonic is not dogfight, they just shoot and pass by, or slow down, turn back to shoot again? I just think of its way dealing with F22 since it's stealthy, only chance for Mig is dogfight at low alt, it could win thanks to IRST and short range missile which could be shot up at low speed. If against F15 for exemple, why hiding just go high and fast, using medium range missle too...

  • I know. I don't ...

I know. I don't want China running the show either. But you have to take a good luck at the direction our country has taken and if you think Iraq was really about freeing people or defending us from terror, you're the one with your head up your ass. Anyway, I agree with you that these guys are just talking shit. Only 1 F-117 was ever shot down. And there's a big technological leap from the F-117 to the F-22.

  • The B-2 is a real ...

The B-2 is a real acheivement which the Soviets simply didn't have time to build a countermeasure, I wonder if they would have found that truly necessary anyways. Wrong again Gwen, B-1B carries about 61.000kg of int/ext ordonnance (I hope u'r familiar w the metric/gram system) and has a range of 12000km while the Tu-160 has 80000kg and 12300km range. The B-1 is barely combat proven, the new Tu-160 are built in Kazan, all of them have been modernized. Your sense of denial is apalling!

  • I would really love ...

I would really love to aknowledge where the heck did the Russians admit the MiG-29 is a pale copy of the YF-17, show me some material or else shut ur trap. Russian engines are also very fuel efficient and quite powerful, and very complex too, Chinese try to copy but are still unable to match the Saturn AL-31F. That engine could well have been fitted an F-16 copy, with thrust of 16,754 lbf/ 27,557 lbf w afterburner, compared to F-16's P&W F100 14,590 lbf/23,770 lbf.

  • Wrong again 'ape'; ...

Wrong again 'ape'; the Russians admitted that the Mig-29 was a copy of the YF-17! They also tried to copy the YF-16 but their available engines weren't powerful enough to support that configuration. The US has 100 B-1bs, Russia has (14) TU-160s. The B-2 is already deployed - where is the Russian B-2?. The B-1 has a payload/range identical to the TU-160. Russians ADMIT that the TU-160 is based on the B-1. B-1 is combat proven. Russia IS NOT building more TU-160s - they are making 2 hulks flyable.

  • 'chloroxjello'; you ...

'chloroxjello'; you have your head up your ass. Nobody is at 'fault' for helping to start the US. The US is the 'last, best hope of mankind'. Next to the US the UK is probably the greatest force for good that the world has ever known. You had better hope that China's turn is NOT next. China is a brutal dictatorship that has killed millions of it's own citizens. Whenever China is powerful other nations are enslaved and millions of people die.

Another previously unknown page of history is revealed by: 'ape2002'. Please explain further how the Wehrmacht was: "..poorly trained and poorly equipped.."? If you thought the Battle of the Bulge was not comparable to the Russo/Finnish war why did you make the comparison? I agree with you that the Russian Army sucked and performed poorly against a much smaller opponent - that was my point!

You have been drinking the Russian 'Koolaid' -RoyalNox-. The US Has performed extraordinarily well in Gulf war and Gulf war 2, and Yugoslavia. Many conflicts that would have started have been prevented because Rogue nations were scared of the US military - just look at Libya! How many F-117s have been destroyed in combat? How many Serbian Mig-29s were destroyed?

  • Yeah fine, they ...

Yeah fine, they located one F-117. But the fact is the F-22 could locate the Mig-35 from from 400km. I'm not saying "Russia sucks, USA, USA!" But the fact is they don't have anything comparable to the raptor yet, just prototypes, that's a fact.

  • There's a slight ...

There's a slight difference there pal, Battle of the Bulge was fought in a 'softer' winter against poorly trained, equipped and supplied enemy. The Western Allies once the skies cleared had TOTAL Air supremacy over the germans. Against Finland, the operation was much more challenging, the Red Army was new and nearly untested, it was indeed poorly executed and the Finns could only take advantage of the harsh conditions to inflict heavy casualties to the Soviets.

Yeah you're talking. Nothing pisses me off more than hypocritical English kids. Look what you did to the world over the centuries, you've oppressed just about as many people as America has. Not to mention the forming of America is your fault. Empire's come and go, maybe China's turn is next. But don't sit here and cry a river about U.S imperialism.
