  • Wow! This news ...

Wow! This news contradicts FOX music director Lionel Newman's statements, "Contrary to popular myth, Marilyn did all her own singing. She wouldn't have it any other way considering dubbing a cop-out, and it wasn't necessary since she had obvious talent and ability." The FOX story about Zanuck making her sing in front of him before he would agree to a release stating that she did, in fact, do her own singing in BLONDES contradicts this new finding too. But, itscurtisbitch is correct.

  • MARNI NIXON: ...

    MARNI NIXON:
WIKIPEDIA: "Providing Marilyn Monroe with a few top notes in her performance of "Diamonds Are a Girl's Best Friend" in Gentlemen Prefer Blondes (1953)"

    IMDB: "Miscellaneous Crew:
Gentlemen Prefer Blondes (1953) (voice double: high notes for Marilyn Monroe) (uncredited)"

I owe you an apology, itscurtisbitch. There it is in writing. Now, while these "high-notes" constitute approximately less than 60 seconds of the performance that was ALL Marilyn, they are still there.

  • Ok. if no one ...

Ok. if no one believes me look up Marnie Nixon on IMBD andit cleary states in miscallaneos crew that she in FACT provided marilyn with high notes her original (Dont get me wrong) voice couldn't reach. Natalie woods in west side story also refused to have dubbing but in the end they dubbed the entire soundtrck with marni nixons voice! Once again if you lack in belief look up marni nixon!

  • It's not true. ...

It's not true. Marilyn Monroe always did all her own singing. The music folks at FOX were so impressed by her natural ability that they insisted upon it. Even Darryl Zanuck could not believe it was her own voice when this film was first released. "It's dubbed! She cannot be that good!" he insisted. To prove it was really her own voice, the music director had Marilyn sing for him in person. After being convinced, he refused to even consider dubbing her in anything.

  • itscurtisbitch, I ...

itscurtisbitch, I have no idea who is providing you with such bogus info about Marilyn Monroe. But, please get your facts straight before you start blasting a legend like Monroe with such completely inaccurate nonsense! Marilyn Monroe always did ALL her own singing in every film that she appeared in from the beginning until the untimely end of her career. The music folks at FOX, in fact, were the first to point out that she was a perfectionist demanding take after take.

  • ok...well Marylin ...

ok...well Marylin didn't sing all of it. It was noted that Marni Nixon dubbed her voice. Back then though, they would never want to make it appear that one of the Biggest stars couldn't sing the high notes in this movie. Marni Nixon also dubbed Audrey Hepburn in My Fair Lady as well as Natalie Woods in West Side Story.
