  • dont worry i dont ...

dont worry i dont wish to ignore your view. Sure most artists grow up with their influences and that has a bearing on the music they themselves make. but i dont think its accurate to say noone is original in the music world. what about in early music history when discordant melodies were unacceptable. someone at some point must have thought "ok ill break the rules and not care what the reaction is"

  • You're ...

You're contradicting yourself. If, as you say, everything is some sort of copy of something else [as is inevitable], then why are you whingeing about it in the first place? You should instead be appreciating the talent involved in lifting an old sound into a fresh context. Incidentally, even if YOU perceive a song to be particularly 'original', it's probably (at least subliminally) influenced by something else, even if your naivety doesn't accomodate it.

  • Maybe that comment ...

Maybe that comment was over the top for the little examples being discussed here but recently i was listening to the Will Smith cd "Big Willie Style" and i was amazed that pretty all the songs were rehashes of late 70s and early 80s disco/dance tunes. all hes done is change the vocals so its not obvious. There isn't anything else thats not a copy of something. so an easy album to make and easy profits

  • those songs with ...

those songs with sampling are just getting in the way of original songs. music doesn't go forward, its boring and the record companies just do it for easy and safe profits

  • What's all this " ...

What's all this "stealing". Rihanna and Mike are "sampling". And for the record, Mike took the makosa LYRICS and sang it in his own original tune. Rihanna wholesale "sampled" mike's version. Search Don't Stop The Music by Rihanna and you can faintly hear Michael Jackson's trademark "heeee heee" in the background. It's literally copy and paste.

This was the earliest of Makossa before it became Makossa as today. Makossa was like funk and pop in the 70's.

How do you figure? We came from Africa too. We obviously retained some cultural traits. The slave ship stop in PR too even though most of them don't want to admit it.
