With most trumpets, the number stamped on the valve should face you when you play.
Raise each valve up to where you can see the number stamped on part that houses the spring and make certain, when your holding the trumpet to play it, you can see each valve's number. Put them back in - each one should click in place and you should be good to go.
Let me know if this works - good luck and enjoy playing trumpet. I've been playing for years and still love it.

Thanks for the comment - I agree with you. That is why we qualified oiling through the slides - we figured there were those that simply would not want to pull the valves up for oiling.
We discussed that particular segment a lot before including it.
Thanks.

Wow, I don't even play trumpet and I learned alot! Take care John. Annie Fannie

Another reason for horn players to watch out for the same thing. Applying oil into the slides then inserting the slide and allowing the oil to flow into the valve would work better. So I would only recommend oiling by way of removing valves as shown. Very informative in your video!

On a Bach Strad, the valve number that appears on the piston spring barrel below the aluminum valve stem should face the mouthpiece receiver when you put the valves in. You'll feel them click into place with minor rotation of the piston if you start with the valve number facing the receiver.
Also, make certain the wide notch inside the casing matches up to the wide tab on your valve guide.
I hope this helps - take care.

great video, i was wondering if i could ask some advice, i've used a yamaha trumpet for many years and when replacing the oil i could twist the valves until they click and i'd be ready to go, now i've recently aquired a bach strad and it doesnt do this, when i twist the valves they do lock, but when i go to play no sound comes out, the way i got round this was watching the valves slide down slowly and make sure the holes match the outer tubing, is there an easier way?
Many thanks
Jamie
I use the Hetmans cause the band department employee at my music store said it doesnt leave as much sludge/residue as petroleum.
